Car clamped, dealership paid 6months not 12!

I bought a car from Arnold clark in September and agreed to pay 12 months road tax, which they billed me for on my invoice.
Yesterday my car got clamped and I found out they had only put through 6 months not 12 months. I took it in good faith that they would tax it for the amount of time they said and what I paid for!
I’ve since contacted Arnold Clark who grudgingly agreed to pay (personally I would say refund!) 6 months road tax and pay for the £100 fee to have the vehicle un-clamped.
At the time of the incident I was using the car for work purposes and had to rearrange my whole working day. It also involved having my husband leave work to collect me and try and sort out the situation.
I know have to wait and see if I get a fine from DVLA and will also have the backdated road tax to pay.
Arnold Clark tell me that they do not provide compensation but I feel strongly that they should! Any advice?

Didn't you get a tax reminder in the post? One man's folly is another man's wife. Helen Roland (1876 - 1950)0

I think it is an error but they have put you back in the position you started with by paying the fee, did you get paid from work? If not then I guess you could ask them for that but it's unlikely I would think0

No, which was also because they didn’t sent off the change of ownership part of the log book. I appreciate I should have made sure I receive it but I was not thinking about renewing car tax until September .0

So 10 months on and you didn't think about a log book?0 -
Doesn't that mean the car was still registered to them? And if so won't it be them that gets any fines etc?0

I think you are both to blame here. You should have made sure you'd got the log book and you could have checked to see if the tax was all ok online. I always check tax, mot and insurance, it takes minutes
AC should have done what they said they would do and also sent off the the log book.
I think what they offered is fair, claims of compensation is over the top and not justified.
Wait to see if you get a fine then discuss it with AC if you think it worth while. Or just cough up the cash yourself as its partly your fault and get on with life. One man's folly is another man's wife. Helen Roland (1876 - 1950)0 -
speak to your insurer or breakdown cover if you have legal advice with them. AC are notoriously poor as far as honest and customer services go. Unfortunately in many areas they almost have a Monopoly.
If it were me I would pursue them for any and all losses incurred.0 -
