No idea, as I am not a legal expert. Bearing in mind the massive fines the company has been hit with would suggest that there are copious amount of people in the same boat.

What "massive fines" has Santander had for PPI miss-sale?

You're not understanding the process - firms only have to hold data as long as they deem it necessary. The general guideline for finance is 6 years from the point the customer closed the account. The person who posted about about finding account numbers from the CRA clearly has an account or had an account active in the last 6 years so their records are on file. If yours was closed over 6 years ago there is nothing wrong with Santander not having the records. They bought A&L in 2008, if your accounts were closed before then, chances are they won't even have been brought over on a live system and have long since been deleted in line with the data protection act. If neither you nor they have records, your complaint is over.

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • Just going back to my original question and the thread has gone off topic...!

Is the clause in the account info form reasonable? Should I sign it?

    Thank you

They clearly won't progress the case without you signing that, ring them up and ask what it means if you need reassurance
