Yes, it was allowed as a condition of sale.0

Charlie - mine with A&L dated back to 2007 and they found it after I submitted the online query form on their website. I also had part of the account number shown on an Experian credit report which is easily downloaded which may help?0

You applied for a loan and they offered it on their terms which included the requirement to take out PPI. You were free to accept or reject this. If as you say you didn’t want or need PPI why did you agree to it? If your circumstances were as you describe you would have had no difficulty in obtaining a loan from elsewhere without the inclusion of PPI.0

Hi there, thanks for your comments. Had a look online at my equifax report but alas does not go that far back. Really at a loss where to go next! I wrote to them initially and got a standard reply saying it was over 6 years and they were not obliged to hold information, so good to know they have found information on yours exceeding this timescale. Appreciate your assistance0

Don't recall any provider at the time allowing you to opt out of it - hence the massive backlash now. And time has told that consumers did not require it.0

If the insurance was compulsory (legally allowed), then it wasn't mis-sold.
Unfortunately, your problem is the bank have no record of your finance so your complaint reasons are entirely moot.
Sorry.0 -
Most had it optiional, a few compulsory.
If it was optional but they told you it was compulsory, then that is missing selling. But if it as truly compulsory, then that was ok.

No idea, as I am not a legal expert. Bearing in mind the massive fines the company has been hit with would suggest that there are copious amount of people in the same boat.0

Lenders are perfectly entitled to lay down the conditions under which they will lend you money. You are equally entitled to say no and go elsewhere. It!!!8217;s a load of cobblers to say that at the time other lenders didn!!!8217;t allow you to opt out of PPI.0
