    Why not?

Most dash cams have a wide angle lens and many will record if the car is disturbed whilst parked, others constantly record (time lapse). Photographic evidence could be sufficient to prove who caused the damage - it was for me :T

Not as good as dedicated CCTV, but as OP lives in an apartment that may not be possible?

Won't show who hit the side of the car and caused damage.

Would getting a cover for it help prevent future damage / scratches if you regularly leave your car unused?

Many people do damage without even realising they've done it. I was even staying at a small private hotel and the hotel owner dragged his bin down the side of my car and "hadn't noticed" until I pointed it out.

You can only actually know who did it if you see them - otherwise you're just assuming and, realistically, it could be anybody. All sorts of people use empty spaces to turn round, or park when they don't care whose space it is.

Yes you think it's them - yes, it looks like it's them - but you can't prove it. And, what if you're actually wrong.... how mortifying!!!

All you can do is plan going forwards to collect evidence if this is an ongoing problem.

And if your car were damage in the same way as the OP's yours wouldn't assist in identifying the person responsible. ;)

My camera recorded the "lady" walking to her car getting in it, driving toward my car and then a collision. That was good enough for the Police and my insurer.. but obviously not for you :rotfl:
