Anyone dabble in shares?

Hi

Was just wondering if any of you put cash in shares from time to time? Im quite/slightly more than keen in them - especially when Ive seen a 'chart' thats just broken into an uptrend.

MSE is usually mentioned 1 - 2 times in my 'Shares Weekly' mag which I normally receive on a weekly basis - they love the site. I just wondered if MSE loved shares?

Regards

I don't think MSE, as an entity, has views on anything!

yeh we ... well okay I love shares and not only shares, stock index futures also !

The FTSE is a pretty stable index to trade.... ooops where am I going ... its shares we should be talking about !

    Yeh invest in good shares

    Whats a good share ?

Well some key common factors are at play such as good ROE year on year, good earnings growth, not too much debt, oh and a good dividend !

    What to avoid ?

Loss making companies ! Crazy Companies like Marconi that like to gamble ! etc...

As you can guess I am bullish... I may be wrong, but the market is moving in my bullish direction... though to be truthfull I am dissapointed that it is weak relative to wall street .. Why is it so ?

Hmmm, maybe I should eye a short futures position to hedge the portfolio a little... !

Now youve got me all paranoid....

    Hi,

I'm quite a keen investor. I haven't heard of " Shares Weekly ", though. Do you have a link? None of the investment magazines which I read have ever mentioned MSE and I have to say that I'm rather surprised to hear of one which does because as a source of info for investing MSE is worse than useless - but then it is a money-saving, not a money-making, site and does not pretend otherwise.

TBH, if you are a TA enthusiast I expect that you'd be happier somewhere like ADVFN

    :-)

Thanks for the replies. Slight error on my side - the mag is called Money Week (mainly on shares & stuff though).

I like shares, specifically blue chips that pay good dividends. I don't trade much though - it's trading that destroys your profits through the charges.:(
    Trying to keep it simple...;)

I like to play around picking/buying/selling shares especially communication types like Pipex and Thus - but only use 2.5k that would not matter that much if it went badly. It's really interesting I find although I seem to have a knack that anything I buy immediately drops price.
(aginst my current trend my Pace ones that I stuck with for some months have just almost doubled - it's a good feeling).
My website has lots of info and photos from various Greek and Canary Islands esp. about walking. My profile has the site address cos not allowed to put it here.

Rats. Thought I'd found a new magazine :-( . IIRC, Money Week has an extract from MSE every week but it's nearly always a money-saving type tip. The funny thing is, when you look at the properties for sale feature, not to mention the cars and gadgets, MSE doesn't exactly spring to mind!. Maybe it's just someone being a little subversive...perhaps thinking that people who are willing to spend several thousand pounds on a watch could do with a little money saving advice :-)

If you want to discuss shares and investments there is no better site than The Motley Fool -

Some really first-class posters, with excellent advice.

low commision isn,t always the best,as some of the low cost brookers impose a annual fee.
