Car damaged by illegal overtake

Hi.
My windscreen was badly damaged and paintwork was also damaged by stones thrown up by a car which overtook me illegally.
I was driving at the speed limit and the overtaking car crossed cross hatching markings and threw up a load of stones.
I have it all on dashcam and also have the vehicles number.
I flashed him and signalled for him to pull over but he just disappeared into the distance at high speed.
Is it worth contacting police and insurance to try and claim for the damage.
Thanks

Probably not worth it.0

As soon as you report this you will have to declare it for the next 5 years regardless of whether you get anywhere or not.
Damage from stones being thrown up on the road can be a grey area - not sure the TP insurer will entertain a claim but if its that badly damaged give it a go - have you got a quote for the repair?0 -

Yes, claim from the Council for the stones being in the road perhaps?0

You can snitch him/her up for the driving on the forbidden (solid border) cross hatchings with your dash cam footage if it makes you feel better.
There are official Police webpages for snitch footage now.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Isn't calling it 'snitch footage' a bit pejorative?
there's nothing wrong with providing film evidence that can possibly be used by the police to make roads safer for all drivers.
There are too may dangerous and selfish oafs on our roads. Dashcam footage is an excellent way of fighting back.0
