    So booting to safe mode didnt make any difference?

    not in that instance, but MBAM in safe mode is recommended for some stubborn infections, especially if they're lodged in a driver. Safe MOde loads minimal dirvers, so more chance of picking up the infected one if not running,

    Times have moved on quicker and better outcome to restore a device these days imo
