I've been very happy with the picture quality of my Pixel 2. The optical and electronic stabilisation on videos mean they turn out excellent too.
At £630 (for the 5" non-xl 64GB) It's not a cheap phone by any stretch, but it's been on sale under £500 a few times this year, and will probably be again in a couple of months when the Pixel 3 is announced. What about a Nokia 8, latest android and 2 cracking lenses front and rear.
From what I've read, the Nokia 8 has some good hardware, but the software is lacking, and a lot of the improvements in camera phone tech over the last couple of generations has been in the post-processing such as HDR+ and using burst mode to improve low-light quality.
Apparently side-loading a port of the Google Camera software from the Pixel onto the Nokia improves things quite a bit if you're willing to tinker.3.6 kW PV in the Midlands - 9x Sharp 400W black panels - 6x facing SE and 3x facing SW, Solaredge Optimisers and Inverter. 400W Derril Water (one day). You can get a brand new S9 for £499-£509 from smartfonestore depending on whether you want locked or not.
Or, an S8 for under £400.

Only if you don't mind having a phone with an outdated OS.
Nothing wrong with Windows 10 Mobile whatsoever. It's absolutely not my personal choice (I avoid Microsoft), but having used it on a number of phones (as well as 8 Mobile), I have to say it's an excellent Mobile OS. The main reason people don't rate/get it, is down to a lack of adoption from OEM's and app developers.0 -
Rubbish. The 950 uses Windows 10 which is the current Microsoft Mobile OS. Even 8.1 which is now outdated is still an excellent OS, and most of those devices can be updated to 10.

Outdated might be the wrong word, but it is obsolete.
Microsoft themselves officially abandoned the OS last October. While there will be security updates for a time, there will be no more feature updates, and your last sentence is the reason why.
App support is lacking, and a platform is only as good as it's apps.
Microsoft don't have a 'current Mobile OS'. I will say though, their Android apps (particularly the launcher) are pretty well written.3.6 kW PV in the Midlands - 9x Sharp 400W black panels - 6x facing SE and 3x facing SW, Solaredge Optimisers and Inverter. 400W Derril Water (one day). Windows mobile has been abandoned i believe. that means no security updates or any other update from Microsoft.0 -
Didn't realise Microsoft had thrown the baby out with the bathwater.

They haven't abandoned it (Yet). Mainstream support for windows 10 mobile will continue until December 2019.
I have a Nokia 830 running 10 beautifully, I use it as a second phone when I don't want to risk my Samsung.... I would have stuck with the OS without any reservations had the developers not been so lazy, or, perhaps, so mercenary.
Hey Ho, on the occasions I do use it, I'm reminded of what could have been....Sad really, it's a really great OS...
Oh yes and back on topic...........It takes great pictures, still.:)Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Yes, Nokia now use android, because no one is making Windows phones now.
Many people did buy into Windows phones, but the apps weren't developed, which left people no choice but to move back to Android or IOS.
MS will, hopefully, be back soon with the Surface phone rocking full Windows 10.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Pixel 1 was selling for £198 on hotukdeals last week. I paid 399 last year. Great phone"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0
