£800 for a phone is crazy money!
How much it would cost for a decent camera and a cheap smartphone off eBay...? Would that result in money saved and EVEN BETTER photo quality...?
That's nowhere near as convenient a solution though and that's what is key to the popularity of high end smartphones. I have a wide range of cameras including premium and super high end compacts (including some with NFC/wireless) but I still love the camera on my Note 8. The image quality the phone is able to extract from the tiny 1/2.3in sensor is remarkable but what's also extremely useful is how quick and convenient it is. From standby I can simply double tap the power button and the camera is immediately ready to take a photo, every aspect of the camera is blisteringly quick.
I pretty much always have an RX100mkIV in my pocket which has a superior 1in sensor and it conveniently has NFC/wireless which means transferring a photo or photos is simply a case of tapping the phone on the side of the camera and everything else is done automatically. However it's still far less convenient to use than the phone as I need to take it out the pocket, out of its case, power it on, wait for it to extend the lens then once the photos are taken I have to get them transferred to the phone.
I do still love all my dedicated cameras and make extensive use of them but I very much value a decent smartphone camera and it's an area cheaper phones are usually a lot worse at both in the image quality and the speed. My mobile phone is the device I use the most, it's with me all the time and gets frequent use throughout the day whereas my car, PC's even bikes are sitting idle much of the time so I very much get my money's worth.
I appreciate there's plenty people who aren't so fussed about their phones but we all have different priorities and there's certainly benefits to the more expensive phones.0 -
Several online places have the S8 on a two year contract for £23 a month. That works our at about £260 for the phone that would have cost you about £600 a year ago.
But wait until black Friday deals in November and you may do better.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 was my thought as well as it's still a great phone with a superb camera but having been replaced by the newer S9 there's been some good prices on it recently.0 -

I'll second the Samsung S8+....Great phone and Camera, which is why the S9 is not selling so well, it hasn't much in the advancement department.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you
