Utter Bull. You behave dishonestly, encourage it in others and then try to call them out on it. Complete and utter hypocrisy. Your posting here for advice from genuine people make you look pathetic and is insulting to us.

You are a cowboy client of the highest order and I believe in karma. Enjoy it when it comes back for you because it will do on a regular basis. One reaps what one sows.

OP accepts their due diligence was flawed, and leading to conflict. Otherwise my observations have been ignored by OP. No mention of OP doing a design, nor any setting out. The Specification remains unknown and likewise the Buildings Regulations. I suspect there was no management - after all it is a cash job, so "ask no questions here". OP being proactive seems unlikley and one assumes OP only looked at the work when it was deemed "complete". More fool OP here. But it serves them right.

Electricians are not fools - things could crop up and cost OP dearly!

does 'Homer' certify his work, probably not. Good luck if he f***s up and your house burns down.

    What are you talking about?

    Homers (nixers) are illegal.

It's not illegal to pay cash.

It's not illegal to pay cash.

I never suggested that it was. The implication with homers (and why the OP suggested that the benefit was to save money) was that this is a deliberate attempt to unlawfully avoid deductions such as tax/NICs/VAT. Not declaring the income - or facilitating such an arrangement - absolutely is illegal.
  • Thanks for the advise and kind comments. I know I pushed a few buttons but that is good too :)

Just don't push too many buttons at home. You never know how they've been wired.
  • Don't worry about my buttons. New electrician coming tomorrow. Sacked the other one this morning :)

And I doubt the new one will be happy to work for £20/hr either.
