We have a lovely wool carpet in our upstairs bedroom, our son walked in some dirt, on checking out reviews I decided to try rug doctor stain remover. I followed the instructions as stated on the bottle and now my carpet is totally ruined the stain removed has done something to the carpet.
I got a professional carpet firm in and they could not do anything and suggested I ring the manufacturer 'rug doctor', the manufacturer was fine at first and said they would test the batch number, now they have supposedly tested the batch and said its fine and replied they wont do anything for me.
Its so annoying because their product has wrecked my lovely carpet , any idea what I can do next? or where I stand.
Thanks

What happened when you did a patch test on a small hidden part of the carpet?0 -

I think the OP meant he followed all the instructions except that one
As to who's responsible, sounds like the person who tracked the mud in should be the one who should take responsibility.0 -
Did you buy directly from manufacturer?
How much damage?
Did the professional say the product had caused the damage?0 -
Directions for Use:
Check for colour fastness by testing the cleaner on an inconspicuous area and blot with a white cloth to check for any colour transfer.
Op what happened when you did this and how did the catastrophe after that unfold.0 -
There is no mention of a patch test on the bottle we have, I bought it from Tesco. The carpet needs replacing looks like its been bleached in multiple patches and the professional recommended i contact the manufacturer as he thort the product had caused the damage. Thanks0

Is your carpet one that is safe to use bleach products with?0

Which product was it exactly? There is more than one.0

1/ Check your home insurance policy and see if you can claim for a replacement carpet / repairs via that route.
2/ Rollock your son. I'm wondering how on earth he can be walking around the house, and go upstairs, in to your bedroom, with that much dirt on his footwear that he leaves a mark that requires specialist cleaning products to remove. Did none of this come off in your hall, stairs and landing as he walked around the house without a care in the world? Depending on his age, either the naughty step, sell off his XBOX and games to pay for the damage, or increase his rent to cover the damage.0 -

I bet there is and you didn't see it. Also, which shop you bought it from is irrelevant because branded products don't have different labels for sale in different shops.0
