Rule of thumb I've heard (not sure of source) is that for fuel consumption open windows is better around town, aircon at A/M road speeds.0 -
I'm not trying to get rid of the heat nor do I care about efficiency, I want to get in, drive off and have cold air blowing on me so that's what I do. I rarely use the car during the day (commute by bike) so at weekends I want comfort not faffing around. I do tend to turn it off and use the stop/start if at junctions if you're really concerned about my fuel use!
I'm not at all concerned about your fuel use (or mine), merely reiterating the recommend way to dispell hot air from the cabin quickly.0 -

I'm not concerned about your fuel use, but the point was that opening windows to let the built up heat out (air con on or off at this point), will get the car to the desired temperature faster. If you think putting down and up 2 or 4 electric windows is a faff, maybe driving's a bit much.0 -

A lot of cars these days you just hold the "unlock" button as you're approaching and it will lower all the windows. Very handy and it means the most of the hot air has dispelled by the time you get in.0 -
The most efficient way of getting rid of all that built up heat is to open the windows for a minute or so while you're preparing to drive off. Much quicker than waiting for the aircon and uses less energy too.
Also good for getting rid of the buildup of plastic chemicals in the air that are probably giving us all manboobs or something.0 -
Open windows whilst approaching car. Leave windows cracked about 6 inches for about 5 minutes whilst driving (heat rises and all that). Fully close windows. Job done.
With climate control, I just set at 21deg and let it manage itself, all year round. Never had an issue with fuel consumption or running "lumpy".Life isn't about the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away. Like choking....0 -

I had read about that and tried it, sadly doesn't seem to workSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Yeah but I'm not trying to dispel from the whole car, I'm happy with it on 15 degrees blasting for the whole journey, I can't stand the heat so the blowing in the face is fine. I drive solo so the rest of the car doesn't really matter, I will use as many vents pointing at me as possibleSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

Agreed and Illustrates my point precisely. The world seems to be full of nobs who will not open their windows with the Aircon on, even when the car is stifling hot from being left in the sun and that includes my best friend. The only reason they do this is because it says so in the book. Recently got picked up from the airport in Majorca by a nob who would not open the windows despite the taxi being 2 billion degrees CelsiusI'm not at all concerned about your fuel use (or mine), merely reiterating the recommend way to dispell hot air from the cabin quickly. If I ruled the world.......0
