Airport Lounge Hacks

Flew business with work from Heathrow to Adelaide via Hong Kong on BA (was Qantas actually) about 10 years ago, the LHR lounge was nice enough but the break in HK was great, proper shower and towels to freshen up before the second leg. Seem to recall Heathrow one had free champagne and trimmings. Better reason to fly business is the flat beds for a night flight, I am not a good sleeper at the best of times and flat bed was the only time I can ever recall properly sleeping on a plane (possibly one other time where I had 2-3 hours sleep during the day just to force myself to fall asleep on another flight from HK to Sydney when travelling after university in coach).
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

You can book flights with a long connection time (we aim for around 9 hours) and choose times where you're ready for a kip, it's a far better and cheaper way to get a good night's kip than trying to sleep on the plane, whether in a seat or a "sky dorm" (aka business).
Provided of course you can spare an extra 6 hours or so each way.0 -

I don't think the BA Business lounge at LHR now serves champagne but the first class lounge certainly does.
As for HKG if you or anyone gets chance to go in either of the Cathay Pacific first class lounges then any other lounge has a lot to live up to. Apart from what you would expect from two of the best lounges in the world, you could have use of a Cabana, with full size bath and bed, whilst the other lounge has personal day rooms which overlook the runway. After your rest you could then get a massage then have a full sit down waiter served meal. All complimentary of course.
I wonder how much a day pass to those lounges would be plus any hacks to get the price discounted0 -
Not sure about HK, but Singapore has a transit hotel airside which is brilliant - private room ensuite with shower etc just like a normal hotel room, but no windows so good for a daytime kip, and you book by the hour, think 8 hours is about £70 or so for a couple, so quite cheap.

You can get an even cheaper nights kip if you fly SIA and take advantage of one of their £1 a night stopover hotels.0 -
