What's that going to tell the OP more than he knows already.

Given there are now posts debating when the MOT is due may I humbly suggest it may tell us something we don't know for certain.

Are you sure the MOT anniversary is the same as the registration anniversary? Mine isn't.

Many thanks for all the replies and there appears to be no definitive answer so options as follows.

    1. Do nothing and hope they will take the car and not refuse to drive it away and hit me with an aborted collection visit and continued rental charges until I can get an MOT on the car and arrange a new collection date.

    2. Get a local MOT tomorrow for about £40 and hope it sails through.

    3. Try and get an MOT tomorrow with the main dealer £54 and any expensive defects would be covered by the warranty such as shock absorbers, dampers etc.

    4. Speak to Lexautolease explain the issue and get advice. It took me three working days to get through on the phone when I tried to arrange the collection. Holding for about 30 minutes each time before giving up. Emails were not answered. The onus is on me to arrange the collection.

I think I will go for Option 3 at 8:00 and try to make a provisional booking then go for Option 4 at 8:30. Option 2 is the last resort and Option 1 is not worth the risk.

Can you quote a regulation to support that?

AIUI it must pass a test "no later than" 17th, i.e no offence committed until 18th.

Anyway, the lease company must deal with this daily and know the law better than us ...
The first test is due by midnight on the day before the third anniversary of registration. My car was registered on 30th April 2015 and MOT status ran out at midnight 29th April 2018. MOT was carried out on 19th April and is due (by midnight) 29th April next year.

Update: According to Lexautolease an MOT is not required until midnight on the 17th July.

That's a seriously big assumption ? Unless it's a retail car that comes with MOT insurance then there's no guarantee that any failures will automatically be covered by warranty

They are wrong but hey if they're saying you don't need to get it done then that's their problem not yours. Happy days.

Although the could be confusing midnight on the 16th and 00:01 on the 17th, which some people tend to do. The reality is your MOT is due sometime from 00:01 to 00:00 on the 17th.

It's all in section 4 of The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations. In that the legislation will not apply for

"A vehicle which has been submitted for an examination under section 43 or section 54 of the 1972 Act while it is being used on a road in connection with the carrying out of that examination and is being so used by a person who is empowered under that section to carry out that examination, or by a person acting under the direction of a person so empowered."

In other words it can only be driven to a pre-booked MOT on the day of expiry.
