Take a look when it needs an MOT here https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-status0

What's that going to tell the OP more than he knows already. If the car was 1st registered on the 17 July 2015 then the MOT will be due on the 17 July 2018.Take a look when it needs an MOT here https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-status
OP, I would check the T&Cs of you contract hire, I strongly suspect you will be required to get it MOT'd, and although it's a rush now you have had a month to think about this and get it done.0 -

Three years, surely?0 -
I fully intended returning the car within the three years, but the collectioin company could not collect until the 17th July.0

Check your contract. I suspect you're expected to return it with an MOT.0

Whichever company collects the car they will take it to one of their sites. That will be done on the 17th. If they wish to move it from the 18th on wards they will need to get it MOT'd or put it on a transporter.
Having worked for BCA and collected cars at the end of leases it is up to the driver collecting it to make sure that it is roadworthy. On the 17th it will still be roadworthy and can be legally driven.
The last lease car that I had 4 years ago. It took manheim nearly 5 weeks to collect it. Sat on my drive with no insurance and awaiting a service and an MOT. My lease ended after 3 years and was within the mileage schedule so it was no longer my problem to service it or MOT it.3.795 kWp Solar PV System. Capital of the Wolds0 -

That is very interesting as it is BCA who are collecting the car. However, how can it still be legally driven on the 17th if it was first registered on 17/7/15 and is due an MOT from midnight on the 16th?0 -
Wrong I'm afraid. The MOT is due on the 17th, it can only be driven on that day if a MOT is booked and you driving it to the test centre.Whichever company collects the car they will take it to one of their sites. Can you quote a regulation to support that?
AIUI it must pass a test "no later than" 17th, i.e no offence committed until 18th.
Anyway, the lease company must deal with this daily and know the law better than us ...0 -
Plenty of sites give the following type of example. The time of registration is the guideline from which you need to count three years forward to provide the date for the first MOT. In the case of a new car if the car was registered as new on 1 February 2013, then the first MOT will have to be done not later than 1 February 2016.
So to me that says that if registered on the 17th then the 3 years runs out on the 16th and an MOT must run from the 17th
In fact the gov site says the following
In other words there must be a valid MOT in force on the 17thIf your vehicle is new, you must get an MOT test by the third anniversary of its registration0
