    I second the suggestion for a further backup to another location, such as the cloud or even another hard drive.

    USB keys/thumb drives are not the most reliable method for storing data and the contents can be easily damaged or corrupted or they can fail completely. Personally, I use them for temporary storage or to transport files to another location, followed by a different backup.

    I have seen far too many snapped USB sticks, laptop slides off lap on to floor, its always the side with the USB stick (like toast and butter) and if it is a long one they often snap.

    Also with a USB stick you can plug them into most TVs and watch the photos on the screen easily.
