BT Roaming

Currently on holiday in Florida.
4 iPhones in family, mobile data and roaming turned off whilst still in UK and software up to date.
At end of 1st week 3 of the 4 phones are showing roaming charges, albeit small amounts. As we are here 4 weeks charges may add up.
Contacted BT and apparently as we only have SIM only with them, they’re not responsible.
I never knew that even though you turn off mobile data and roaming your phone can ignore this and use data!!
It’s the first time it’s ever happened with numerous different iPhones/Samsung and across BT/EE and O2.

That sounds rubbish to me. Tell them to turn off roaming on your SIM Only account as you don't want it provisioned. NB it's not mandatory to have it.0 -
Check under Settings\Mobile Data, bottom of screen, ensure "WiFi Assist" is turned off (it used to be on by default).
This particular setting reverts to using mobile data if the WiFi is poor while using WiFi. It shouldn't use mobile data, as you appear to have turned it off, but it's worth using a belt and braces approach.0 -
Sounds rubbish to me too!
Thanks Frozen, wi-fi assist is off on all phones.0 -
If you don't have data roaming on then it shouldn't use data off your home network.
Could It be incoming calls or calls to voicemail as both of these may be charged outside the EU/EEA...This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I was very happy with Talkmobile, until I went on holiday. The free wandering doesn't perform and left my husband in a life threatening issue, without means of calling help. Fortunately we found a payphone. Once we complained, they would not let's cancel our contracts, despite maybe not fulfilling their phrases of agreement. Customer support is appalling. We will be contacting the ombudsman.0

Sorry to hear of your problems, but the post heading was about BT Mobile, not Talk Mobile.I was very happy with Talkmobile, until I went on holiday. The free wandering doesn't perform <SNIP>
However as a general note, overseas roaming is courtesy of the host countries network and that can be hit and miss at times.0
