Hi all ... Wonder if some one can help and have been in similar situation as we are getting very nervous.
We are have applied mortgage with Halifax.
Valuation has been done and has come what we have offered.
The application is now with Underwriters!
Is this normal?
What do underwriters check?
Also, I was under impression that valuation will not be booked until our affordability and credit was checked.
We do not have any bad credits.
Many thanks for your help in advance

It means there is something in your application which makes human intervention necessary.
Self-employment?
Non-UK/EU/EEA?
Halifax doesn't normally use the term underwriter. They are usually known as Business Assessors, or Credit Decisioning Team depending on the issue.I am a mortgage broker. Hi Kingstreet, Yes, we are contractors.
And UK Citizen.
What would they actually check at this point? as I though that they must have checked affordability and credit.0 -

Very few mortgages will not be underwritten. It's the process where they check all the details you've entered on your application and verify it against the documentation you provide. They may ask for your contracts and proof of renewals etc.
Nothing to worry about. The way to look at it is this: they have already credit scored you and approved you initially. Now they want to know that what you've told them is truthful - as long as you provide documentation that supports your application then 9 times out of 10 you'll get a mortgage offer. They already have the valuation which seems to be good, so that's one less thing to worry about.0 -
What do underwriters check?
Underwriters are in effect the individuals with the authority to make you a mortage offer on the lenders behalf. I's and T's get dotted and crossed to ensure that your application meets the lenders internal criteria. If and where it's grey more senior underwriters will have the final discretion. .0 -
Dear all,
I'm a little bit confused by things that have been requested on my mortgage application. He now wants SA302 for 2018. My accountant has already provided Tax computation but they still want SA302
I emailed my accountant (who submits my return online every year) and he said he can't provide SA302s as it has been obseleted. I looked online and saw that I could actually simply download them from my Personal Tax Account - great, I thought. So I logged in and could see everything from my pension to tax credits and other benefits, etc. But couldn't access my Self Assessment as it said another UTR number had been used - obviously meaning by my accountant.
So is the only way I can access my SA302s/Tax Overviews by trying to get through the HMRC and asking them to post them? (Which I am not sure if they would) I would have thought I had some right to access my own information, and that my online information is mine whether or not my accountant submits it on my behalf?
Now I'm reading that most firms will actually accept calculations and overviews from accountants so not sure why my accountant wouldn't have known this?
In short, morgtage broker wants my SA302s, accountant says he can't provide them and so far haven't been able to get through to HMRC, and I can't access my own Self assessment in my own Personal Tax account.
Many thanks for any help anyone can offer as I am a bit at my wits' end with it all!0 -
Check that a letter from your Accountant confirming they produced them, along with their Tax Calculations & your Tax Year Overviews might be accepted instead.I am a mortgage broker.
