eBay - item not received

I have opened a case with eBay for an item I haven't received (actually two items, but small, light & ordered at the same time so presumably in the same package).

The seller has responded this morning with a royal mail tracking number that shows delivery three days before I opened the case.
It's not a signed for delivery, it's one of the royal mail tracked ones.

On checking the tracking there's no address, it just says item delivered. I have gone back to the seller to ask for proof that this tracking number is associated with my address.
The delivery office recorded is the correct one (ie the delivery office that my post is delivered from).

Now for the question - will eBay regard this as proof of delivery if I have to escalate the case?

Thanks.

    Thanks.

Yes. POD (proof of delivery) as you describe is sufficient for the case to be awarded in favour of the seller. You should NOT consider escalating the case. If you do, you will lose, the seller probably won't want to correspond with you and you are not able to leave any feedback.

You should be trying to get the seller onside as you will need their help. Ask them to kindly dispute the delivery with Royal Mail on your behalf. In the meantime you may want to go to/contact your delivery office and explain the item hasn't been delivered. Check with your neighbours etc to see if the item has been left with anyone else.

Thanks for the reply - it has taken them 6 days to supply this tracking number, I'm afraid that I don't believe it is associated with my address.

I was in all day on the day stated for delivery and saw the postie. Although this would fit through the letter box anyway.

I'll wait and see if the seller responds to my request for proof that the tracking number is associated with this address - his proof of posting should have my address on, shouldn't it? (even though it's not on the on-line tracking).

Asked eBay customer service to call me at 8am - they said they'd call Royal Mail.

Called me back an hour later to say that the tracking numbers don't relate to my address.

Am surprised they could get that information, but am supposed to be getting a full refund.

Thanks very much for confirming that a tracking number of any sort would have resulted in me losing the INR case.

The seller may not have a proof of posting. Certainly if he/she is using a RM business account then it's less likely.

As I said above, you need to keep the seller onside. You will lose the dispute particularly because the delivery office is one associated with deliveries to your address.

I hope this is the case.

I didn't say "a tracking number of any sort would have resulted in [you] losing the INR case".

    I said

The POD you described had your associated delivery office on and the item shows as delivered.

I did point out on the phone that the DO was correct. They had the same concern as me - no address associated with the tracking, so told me that was what they were going to check.

We all know eBay don't always do what they say they're going to, so I shall wait & see.

Do the date/time entries on the POD help/correspond?

The time is a couple of hours earlier than our postie would usually be here.

Nothing special about the date (except I know I was at home).

It doesn't sound like an old POD that the seller is trying to recycle then.

When have eBay said you will get your refund?

Any seller with a POD such as you describe, will not hand over a refund willingly. Did eBay say they will fund it?
