Thank you everyone. Yes it's the scaremongering that has got to me and the fact the garage I use seemed to fobb me off twice. I'll let you know how I get on. Glad I asked for your advise. pb0

I doubt they are fobbing you off because they think it'll fail - they'd either just tell you that or be happy to do the work. It could just be that they are really busy.0

Exactly, why would a garage fob you off when if it fails and they get to do the work they make money - makes no sense at all. Stop overthinking and get it booked in somewhere else.
Unless you want another car (which is fine).0 -
I started a similar post 2 years ago. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5443252/end-for-my-mk1-focus&highlight=consumers_revenge+welding
My W reg focus ( see older than yours ) is stilling running about with the wife.
Glad I spent a few quid and its passed with no advisories this year.
You might do the same.0 -
We have a Y reg ('01) Mondeo and an L reg ('93) 5 series as daily drivers and MOTs aren't an issue.
Last year the Mondeo failed on a broken coil spring and poor handbrake one side. On the way home to do the repairs the spring popped out of its mount and shredded a tyre.
Recovery (didn't want to wait round for the RAC so called out the MOT place), new tyre, spring, handbrake (turned out to need caliper and cable) and test fee came to about a £350 bill. The car's probably "worth" £400 - £500 but £350 for a car that we trust with a full new MOT made perfect sense.0
