Iberia 90k Avios promotion for as little as £200 - not being honoured

Sorry if in the wrong place
Last month Iberia ran a promotion that if you bought a flight, didn't matter what the cost, they would give you 9k of Avios per flight booked, up to a maximum of 10 flights = 90k in Avios.
You could pick up one way flights for as little as £20
The Avios were supposed to have been posted to peoples a/c's within 10 days of making the booking - not the date of flying.
Quite a lot of people have received the promotional Avios
It now looks like Iberia are trying to get out of the deal by just cancelling & refunding the price of the ticket.
Question can they just to that.
My understanding is when you enter into a contract the consumer cannot be left worse off?
If you wanted to just buy 90k in Avios it would be a lot more than £200
Thanks

have a read of the thread on FlyerTalk here https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/iberia-airlines-iberia-plus/1915681-iberia-plus-offer-9000-per-booking-21-jun-24-jun-iberia-com.html0

It was a bit obvious this going to be pulled. I saw it and decided not to bother, same with those mistake BA fares to the Middle East.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Me too.
The biggest problem was you having to keep and spend within Iberia+ acc.
Transferring out leaving negative balance etc etc.
However, the way Iberia have dealt with this is really dodgy. If it had been Ryanair it would be front page news. IAG seem to be able to do what they want with hardly any bad press0 -
I only bought 27k of Avios - so not kicking the backside out of it.
From my early research it looks like Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations may kick in? Which allows for compo.
Since Iberia have a registered office address here in the UK same as BA, they may listen if you write to them & threaten will MCOL.
The only way that I go t BA to listen to me a few years ago was when the paperwork from MCOL landedPrivate Parking Tickets - Make sure you put your Subject Access Request in after 25th May 2018 - It's free & ask for everything, don't forget the DVLA

I saw this promotion on HeadForPoints and decided not to bother because I didn't have an Iberia account previously and you need to have had one for 3 months to move Avios between BA and Iberia.
Seems the whole thing has become a mess I'm glad I avoided, however, I do think that Iberia are taking the mick by simply cancelling the flights and offering a full refund, especially as it clearly wasn't an error fare or similar. It was a decent promotion confirmed to several websites that it was genuine from their marketing department.
If this was BA then the press would be all over it shaming them...!0 -
Looks like our American Cousins are kicking off.
I was planning to move Avios from BAEC to make up required number to spend in Sept.

I'm not surprised Iberia cancelled where people had booked 10 flights that weren't logistically possible. You may have more of a case if you booked flights that you could actually have taken.
When these too-good-to-be-true offers appear and become viral, I'm not surprised they receive the attention of the promoter and get scrutinised.

Exactly, I also did not want to go to Santander again, which is another reason for not going.
The promoter also reads headforpoints and flyer talk.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0
