Geneva Switzerland hotel stay

bunking_off, you seem to know quite a bit about Geneva, thanks for your advice.. However, I can't find kipling for £55, £67 is the cheapest in their chain... could you kindly forward me your link? Do they include breakfast in this price?
Well I've booked (not paid!) Les Nations hotel in Geneva for the week. Its a 4 star hotel and centrally located they say, with train station within walking distance (is this right?).
Also the double room with baby cot, wifi and 'breakfast' was on offer for £55 a night at Les Nations.
Another one I've in mind is
Cristal Hotel - 3* - Geneva (£53)
4, Rue Pradier, Geneva 1201
Could you please suggest which one is better?
Christa1, I would looked up OTEL and found a hotel called Drake for £55, a big one but a bit away from centre.. Do you know more about this hotel? Thanks!
If there are views on Les Nations hotel or any better suggestions, please keep them coming.
I would also like to go skiing for a day, would it be possible in last week of Dec? What place should we go to as we would be taking a train for a day trip only.
Any advice on currency please? I've applied for a post office credit card as they don't charge commission abroad... Should I use that? How much cash would you advise to carry?0 -
I found all our hotels this summer using Trip Advisor. If you key in Geneva, Switzerland you get all the hotels available for your dates in order of likeability factor, not cost. You can then read other people's reviews, and they are awarded stars as ratings so it's quite easy to follow, you can then check availability and prices from differnet suppliers then find the best price for your hotel. Remember if you book through Expedia or hotels.com/lastminute.com to go via quidco for an additional discount.0

Are you determined to stay in a hotel? There is an awesome selection of apartments at a Swiss-based website called Interhome: I used them for a Swiss holiday last February and strongly recommend them.
Like your wife, mine would require a visa for France but not for Switzerland. If you do decide that you need a Schengen visa, Austria offers them by post with a five-day service, and of course there is no visa fee if you are a UK citizen. You could use this visa to get into France as well, although to avoid problems in the future you should visit the Schengen country that issues the visa.
Public transport in Switzerland is excellent. A wide selection of rail passes are available: see the SBB website for details, as well as timetables and journey planners for trains and buses.
I am sure that you will have a wonderful time.0
