Credit Card whilst on a career break

Hey guys

I'm currently on a career break for 12 months living off savings and was looking to apply for 0% purchase card for 12+ months.

I currently have credit card with perfect rating and I have enough saving to last me the year. However I'd rather not withdraw from them right now and lose interest.

The problem is it doesn't seem like any company will offer me a card with no regular income. I even tried to call my existing card provider (halifax) who know about my perfect rating but refuse to offer me one because of no income.

Do you know of any specific companies that could help or any other options?

Many thanks in advance!

  • You don!!!8217;t have a credit rating. Or score. No one does.

    No income means no credit.

You won't be granted credit without declaring a form of income. You have the choice to lie, however I am not recommending or suggesting this. It would be classed as CIFAS - Application Fraud if caught.

The two basic boxes that need ticking before anyone will lend you money:

    1) Will they be able to pay me back?
    2) Have they been reliable with credit in the past?

    (1) is satisfied by having a regular/stable income
    (2) is irrelevant if box 1 isn't ticked, if box 1 is ticked, then they'll look at your credit record.

Note that regular/stable income usually means regular pay as an employee, a pension, or something other than breadline benefits. (Hint: things like JSA aren't meant to leave you with a penny of disposable income).
If you are self employed, then you need to provide history - usually accounts going back to whenever, and you won't get a massive limit.
