Another classic tale of greed and stupidity

Looks like the thread title needs changing then.
Not so much 'a classic tale of greed and stupidity'
More 'a tale of stupidity (according to dolce vita)'Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I think the stupidity bit was that it said that they only lived there for a month and made their decision to move back up north based on that!
That's hardly a substantial amount of time to give something a go, so DUH, of course they won't have found jobs yet or fitted in!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Dolce Vita it seems you've jumped on the bandwagon here. Read the whole article if you can get that chip off your shoulder.
Quote "Estate agents Cooper and Tanner said there had been offers made over the years but they had fallen through because of "bad luck in the personal circumstances of buyers".0 -

Yeah. that's EA speak for
"The buyers couldn't raise the mortgage on such an overpriced pile of !!!!!!".
That sounds like good luck to me.dolce vita's stock reply templates
#1. The people that run these "sell your house and rent back" companies are generally lying thieves and are best avoided
#2. This time next year house prices in general will be lower than they are now
#3. Cheap houses are a good thing not a bad thing0 -
That must be one heavy chip to shift0

They'd have been much better off putting it up for sale a year ago at a heavily-reduced price (eg £400k), & using what money they got for it to buy something nearer to where they feel comfortable. That way, someone else could have got the house at a better price, & they'd have also made a lot of money for themselves. It takes a while to settle into a new area, & if you've moving from somewhere bustling with life to a place where a cow passing wind makes headlines, it would take a lot of adjustment.
I think people knowing it was won in competition makes it harder for them to get a higher price, but also going against it is that it does look very new & too "new money". If I'd won it, I don't think I'd have stayed in it for longer than the winner's contract meant I had to, as nothing about it apart from the bed gives any impression of comfort & of the place being a home rather than just somewhere to lay your head. Some of the interior touches look nice, but there are far too many modern 'must haves' & that red brick would stick out pretty much anywhere - it's like a doddery granny has gone mad with the crochet hook.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."
