Congratulations!
I loved New York.. We stayed in Upper East Side, which is a little way out, but still easily walkable (about a mile or so) to Times Square and was not far from Central Park. It was also a very safe district.
The hotel was called Hotel Beacon, it was around 75th street. The hotel was great as it also has a small kitchen area so could nip out to the supermarket directly across the street or get pizza etc and bring it back to the hotel. I am not sure of prices now, but it was fairly cheap a few years back and had great reviews.£2021 in 2021... £253.86/£20210 -

Well done. Bite the bullet and get a hotel in the centre of things. I've just come back and stayed in Sheraton in Time square. Expensive but easy to get to everything you need to see. Friends stayed in the suburbs and they spend hours each day travelling in. It's a big place!Prize fund 2025 £247
