I found a car on auto trader. It come up as a seller elite cars ltd I went to see it with a friend it was like 3 lots with no signs anywhere and my seller had like 20 cars at the back, the car was 1300. I ended up paying 200 deposit and 150 for 3 months warranty for a external company that he was gonna sort out.350 total I got a receipt and done all the paper work And he is delivering the car today and I was gonna pay the remaining 1100.
I done a check and there is outstanding finance so I want everything back
He is coming today at 7 I havnt spoke to him yet I was just wondering what is the best way to approach this
Go there after work and demand my money back ?
Wait for him at 7 and get a recording of him delivering the car as it seems like it would be tricky going to legal root so I wanted extra proof. If you’d seen the garage you’d understand seemed like it was setup to make it impossible for debt collectors and stuff
Please help this is my first car !

Speak to the dealer, he may have a dealer finance, speak to the finance company.
alternatively ask the internet who won't be able to tell you if the finance is ok and the deal is safe.0 -

At that end of the market you're dealing with some very chancey people and TBF you'd have been better off buying an honest car privately. You've bought an £800 car with a dealers £500 margin on top.
It might be worth ringing the finance company in question as its not unheard of for HPI to be wrong.
Likewise it could be dealer finance.
If its correct and there is outstanding finance from a previous owner, I'd be inclined to ring him, say theres outstanding finance on it and unless he can sort that out today (and you can get an indication from the finance company that has been done - you can ring them) then you want your full deposit back.
Technically as you bought the car from a dealer its THEIR problem not yours but it will just become a whole can of worms down the line.0 -

A friend had the same issue, and the dealer knew about the finance.
He phoned the finance company, the outstanding amount was less than he was paying for the car.
He paid them that amount directly to settle and the remainder to the selling dealer. Sorted.0 -
I tried ringing the finance but dataprotection so I’m gonna go there straight after work today0

They should be able to tell you if they have a financial interest in the car at least.0 -

Agreed
It can be hassle and a worry though if / when it happens particularly when the seller sounds a little dodgy from the outset.0 -
Just spoke to the finance company finally after getting the full vin number and it!!!8217;s been cleared. Weird how that comes up on checks than can cost people a lot of money0
