Went on a comparison site and. Hired a car in antes. The site was vehicle rent and then the compan6 was Flizzr and the car hire people turned out to be sixt ( good way of hiding a terrible company)
Of course listening to Martin I booked the insurance in advance. When I picked the car up I was asked by sixt if I had car insurance. I said yes but not with them. They told me it would be 1300 euros for each and every scratch to the car. I checked in French with a witness and that’s what he said
I had no choice but to take the insurance from sixt for 95e as brushing past a tree or something would leave left me with a bill for in excess of 10000 euros which was more than my card limit
Of course I asked for a refund of the insurance I didn’t use from Flizzr answer NO. Nothing from vehicle rent. The icing of the case was when I asked which jurisdiction the contract was under and I was told SLOVENIA I kid you not
Hopefully peer to peer car hire will prevail
Good way of ensuring thehy sell their insurance.

Which insurance did you ask them to refund?Of course listening to Martin I booked the insurance in advance. When I picked the car up I was asked by sixt if I had car insurance. Flizzr is the budget arm of Sixt which is why they are often serviced by the same desk. I would expect the excess to be c1300 euros total, not per 'scratch'
no 6 in Martin's guide covers this https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-car-hire/
what did the comparison site show as the excess amount?

The excess would be capped at the excess amount (which would be the amount held on your card) You could have declined the Sixt insurance as you had your own excess policy
Of course I asked for a refund of the insurance I didn’t use from Flizzr answer NO.
The insurance you bought from a separate company but decided not to use? or the insurance you bought from them but didn't have a scratch? I can't see why there would be a refund of either?0 -
First time poster eh?
Where is "antes"?
That would be 1300 euros in total for excess.
You did have a choice. You either misunderstood or took the salesmen's word, which was obviously nonsense.
If you had read the T&C before picking the car up, you would know that 1300 euros or so is the total excess.
Caveat emptor!0
