Why do traditional hard disks appear to be so slow?

Oh i remember my floppy disk collection. 50+ disks kept safe for dos install and win 3.11 and then win95 disks. Oh and flight sim 95.23 Floppies to load Windows 3.1.

Then to be on the safe side, create disk images of all my Microsoft install floppies and burned then to a singe CD (Think i still have it somewhere!) so i can recreate the floppies if any of them got corrupted or damaged...Laters
