Willow: I knew it, I knew it, well not in the sense of having the slightest idea, but I knew there was something I didn't know!

just to let you know Nuglas went into liquidation on the 23rd jan 2008 and started again with new management who bought the order book and ongoing projects but DID NOT TAKE ON THE GUARENTEES OF EXISTING PROJECTS !!!
So my conservatory finished in DEC 2007 now has 2 windows that do not open and doors that have dropped and when i phoned about it I was told they could come out but would charge me as its nothing to do with the new company and it turned out that the old company did not pay the insurance premium so I am not covered by that either
I complained to the GGF and was told Nuglas resigned in May 2008 so nothing they could do.0 -
motorphotos, perhaps you need to contact trading standards, as Nuglas are openly displaying letters from previous clients prior to this date, as well letting clients view projects from previous years.
I know this, because we regretably are currently having windows installed by them and we were shown both of the above.
To say that I am currently less than happy with their standard of workmanship is an understatement!0 -
have given up with trading standards because of a car i bought from jeffries farm but thats another storey the new company 'nuglas someting or other' bought the order book and projects that were already booked in but no maintenance contracts and because they are a new company with new directors there is nothing that can be done
i am sure that showing projects and recommendations prior to the new company formation is certainly questionable and goes to show that research is a must
i had safestyle do some other stuff (they are not buy one get one free as they double the price to start with) however there was no problems with them at all and the guys who fit were great (still trying to work out the free fitting - are they excentric millionaires with a love of double glazing ????) but unfortunatly they do not do conservatories
good luck with the windows i am sure they will be fine0 -
Just been reading this thread and I'm now concerned. We ordered a conservatory from Nuglas back in April. Not a lot to show for it after that really. A survey was done etc but they then went quite.
We have started to really hastle them to find out what's happening but not much luck...
Does anyone have any further updates on them?
I see they are back in the GFF.
Thanks0 -
Nuglas completed my conservatory in Jan 2008 and so far so good. Some of the original employees were brilliant but the management were c**p! It was obvious they were suffering cash flow problems but this only became evident during the build when their contractors left them through non-payment.
To all future customers the recommendation is "Buyer beware". If this company was sick during normal trading conditions surely its time for 'the grim reaper' during the Credit Crunch! If you're still going to use Nuglas, make sure you use your credit card in some way to get protection from the credit card company under the terms of the 1974 Consumer Credit Act.0 -
It would appear that Nuglas (Southern) Ltd have enterered into a CVA with their major creditors, and made all of their employees redundant during May of this year, and are still trading! Keep well away!0

We are absolutely furious!
After a good six months researching the market, we decided to go with Nuglas for our long awaited conservatory, as we were 'sold' on how long the company had been in business and how "ALL their fitters were full employees of the company and NOT outside contractors." etc.etc.
Our all singing all dancing conservatory was finally completed in May 2007 and we were issued with a 10 year structure guarantee and a 5 yr ancillary guarantee, plus the Ultraframe roof guarantee. We had quite a few problems during the build and they had to come back afterwards, on more than one occasion, to sort out the 'snags'. Oh, and during the build, it became clear that their fitters were, in fact, outside contractors!
This Summer we have had a problem with one of the windows having dropped a little and sticking on opening/closing. Also, we have noticed a problem with where Nuglas connected the conservatory guttering to our existing soffit & fascia board, resulting in causing the main house fascia board to rot.
We were well within even the 5 year guarantee, but on contacting Nuglas in November, were told that they went into administration in 2008. That the Directors had bought out the Company, but not the existing guarantees and that they are working with a skeleton staff.
We were told that they would charge us a £150 call out charge minimum, plus costs of the work and labour to rectify the problems and that it would be cheaper to get our own builder to do the work!
We are furious and are now wondering whether the Ultraframe roof is also not covered??!!
We shall have to keep you posted on that one!
The Nuglas website still states, quite clearly, that they have been in business for 30 years, but of course, this is quite untrue, isn't it?
We would strongly recommend to everyone DO NOT TOUCH NUGLAS WITH A BARGEPOLE! :mad:0 -
We had most of our windows replaced by Nuglas in September last year. We rejected other cheaper suppliers becuase of bad customer service reports, and Nuglas still weren't the cheapest of the others but we liked the idea of the company. .
Within a few weeks the trim strips on the outer corners of the bay started popping off (they clip in place but the clips won't hold) They told us not to worry - they will just clip back in. Which they do - and then pop out again a week or so later.
By December the sealant inside the rooms had gone moldy. Now cracks have appeared at the edges of the ceiling in the bay windows, and there are damp and mold spots near the edges - problem we've never had before in the 6 years we've lived here.
We've tried to complain but having managed to get through once when they said they would get someone to call back now they don't even answer the phone. Emails aren't having much luck either.
We had rejected other cheaper suppliers becuase we knew their customer service records were poor so absolutely gutted, and at this point would strongly discourage anyone from considering them.0
