Using a 4G SIM in a Nokia Lumia 530.

My Motorola G5 decided to throw something of a wobbler the other evening and isn't now working. I removed my Plusnet 4G SIM from the G5 and put it into a Nokia Lumia 530 to tide me over for the time being.

Calls and texts work fine, but the mobile data connection doesn't want to work at all. I've done the basics like making sure the data is turned on and it isn't in airplane mode.

I know that the Lumia is a 3G handset, but would I be wrong in thinking that the 4G SIM should provide a mobile data connection, albeit at the lower 3G speed?

Do any of you more knowledgeable people out there have any ideas as to why the mobile data connection won't work, or how to make it so it does?

Any help would be appreciated.

You're not wrong. Take a look in the settings, mobile networks, APN settings, to see if it looks correct for PlusNet. Usually they automatically install but perhaps it needs to be done manually - the correct settings to enter should be somewhere on their website. When all seems to be correct and still no connection, switch off and back on again.

There's no such thing as a 4G SIM surely, a SIM is a SIM, it all depends on the network it's used on and whether the device can support it. Clearly your SIM works on the phone but there maybe some settings that you need to tweak to get the mobile data element to work.

As above, check your APN settings - https://www.plus.net/help/mobile/mobile-phone-and-voicemail-settings/

Thank you for the information, I will check it out to see whether the settings appear correct.

Thank you for your reply and for the link to the Plusnet settings, much appreciated.

Thank you so much eDicky and neilmcl for your assistance, I have added the settings as per the Plusnet instructions and I now have access to mobile data.
