Old Style Daily Friday 29th June 2018

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

    Morning everyone

I had a really nice day out with my neighbour yesterday. She chose where to go and opted for a small seaside town because she likes a particular fish and chip shop there. I have to admit to having doubts about fish and chips in this weather but as it turned out I really enjoyed them. I still managed the quiche I had defrosted with some salad and strawberries and cream for dessert.

The house was so hot when I got home, even though I left all of the blinds and curtains closed to try and keep out the heat that I just collapsed on the sofa with the fan on, and watched the football. I’m not into football at all but quite enjoyed watching it.

I was too tired and hot to do any housework when I got in so need to get a few things done today. I also need to get some shopping as I’m beginning to run out of fresh salad bits and fruit. I will probably go out very early while it is still cool and quiet in the shops.

Have as good a Friday as possible everyone.

Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread Hollyharvey.

I've been up for a couple of hours, I've had some sleep but woke quite regularly, partly because it was rather hot and partly because I had some strange dreams. One of them was linked to life events and so realistic that I had to tease out what was real and what was dream so by the time I'd done that, I was wide awake.

Now I'm just giving houseplants a soak while it is cool. I don't have too much to do today other than the usual Friday Tidy and the Scrubbage of the Bathroom. So I'll do that and then I'm making a knitted Darth Vader, making it up as I go along, if it doesn't work I'll just start again. I think she wants a You a too and I don't have the right colour of green. Nor much if an idea how to do it so once I get the yarn, that will be another case of winging it.

Nothing much else going on here so I hope everyone has a happy day.

Holly did you go to Wells next the Sea? I was brought up in Norfolk and have good memories of it.

    Morning everyone

hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

A cloudy and overcast start again here, but sky clears and sun is forecast - it was really hot again yesterday, forecast is the same for the coming days.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Dinner last night was smoked sausage and mushroom pasta in creme fraiche sauce, tonight not sure what we will be eating but will organise it whilst doing the food shop this morning.

Yesterday I wasn't as productive as I'd hoped to be but did get to the bottom of the wash basket, but no doubt it has more in it this morning. I'll strip our bed and get the bed linen in the wash first thing, also have a couple of admin things to do. I must get the ironing done as there's loads, will do that once I get back from shopping.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks HOLLY. Another scorcher in store with the sun already beaming through the window.

Mr TA enjoyed his little jaunt into the lower Dales with his DB yesterday whilst I, in his absence, caught up on some bits of ironing and spent too much on a big shop in Sainsbobs. Next week I must get back to Aldi. It was very quiet and I was straight to a checkout. Maybe people are leaving it until the evening in this hot weather.

The 3 DGDs arrived after swimming just as the football was starting! Bad timing! The Bolognese Bake was demolished in no time as usual. DD and I had veggie bakes, salad and new pots, whilst Mr TA had a vanilla nutrishake and apple fool. We all finished off with strawberries and ice cream. There was too much washing up for the dishwasher and I had to wash up as well!

The DGDs are still asleep but will be to waken up shortly. It's more stressful when the older one is here as she always gets up in sloth mode and I am constantly on at her to hurry up as her school starts earlier than the 2 younger ones.

Once peace reigns I really must do a much needed Friday Tidy as Jobs get postponed until it's cooler and it never is!.

Have a good day all and ((HUGS)) where wanted/needed. Take care all xx

    Morning

TA - how old is your older granddaughter? Could she not stay at home and get herself sorted and off to school. Once I started senior school, I had to get up, get showered and dressed, organise my pack up and brekkie and cycle the 1.5 miles to school in all weathers. Essentially I was self sufficient and coming home at night I had a door key and let myself in, sometimes my dinner would be on a plate ready to be microwaved or a note would be left to say we'd be eating together later etc.

I don't mean to offend you but with all the worries with MrTA's health I feel you could really do without the extra stress and running around. Of course you carry the bulk of the worry and stress so it's not doing you any good either.

    Keep safe and well x

  • NMIC she is 13. I think if DD went to work, leaving her in bed to get herself up and ready she would never get to school!

Yes, I go there quite often. I go to Cromer and Blakeney as well. My maternal grandad bought a house at Brancaster as a holiday home so we spent a lot of time there as young children even though we only live on 'the doorstep' in Suffolk. Like you, I have a lot of good memories of Norfolk.

    Morning all,

Was sick in the night. Youngest bought a bug home from work. He escaped it himself but passed it on to me.

    I just want to sleep.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all.

    Morning

    TA -
Ohh, I thought she was about 11 years old, she's plenty old enough to be sorting herself out. I have boys (well men now, 1 x 21 year old and 1 x 18 year old) when they were at school they knew they needed to get up, get sorted and get off to school. And now they both know if they need to get up they need to sort it out. I do make them a cuppa and take it up so I know they have at least had a drink before they leave the house but they do essentially sort themselves out. Maybe some tough love is required - if granddaughter went back to sleep and didn't get to school, the school would have something to say and she'd get into trouble at school, at 13 she needs to be responsible for her actions.

At least if she was able to stay at home and go to school from there it would give her a sense of being trusted and responsible and that it's acknowledged that she's growing up, also it would take the weight and stress from you with just having the youngest 2 to look after.

Just a suggestion, hope I haven't offended you.

    Keep safe and well x
