Moving house tomorrow (Sky)

Options
As the title states we’re moving house tomorrow and are currently with Sky Broadband. We’d like to stay with them and I thought I could just take my WiFi box with me and continue using it from a new house, but I’m not sure this is the case

If anyone has any experience in this I’d be grateful.

No you can't just take the router (I presume this is what you meant). You need to let them know so they can transfer your service. It's a bit late now though so it'll take a while the move the service over. You'll still be paying for BB at your current house and the line will still be active, and will have no BB at the new property.

@mije1983 I let them know last Thursday, but nothing has been done since then, they were trying to sell me stuff instead. I!!!8217;m not happy with paying at my current house although not using it. We didn!!!8217;t know until last week that things were going to exchange and complete.

How long until the broadband is set up in our new house in that case then?

We didn!!!8217;t find out until recently about exchange and completion. It!!!8217;s all happened so quickly.

What can we do as a replacement for broadband in the new house until it!!!8217;s set up?

Did you actually start the home move process last week then? They should have given you a date when it would be up and running. If you didn't, then you need to start it tomorrow.

When you say 'nothing has been done', you won't be updated daily during the process. They will be working on things in the background. But that is conditional on you actually starting the process.

I'm not happy with paying at my current house although not using it. We didn't know until last week that things were going to exchange and complete.

Neither of those reasons are Sky's problem though. That could have been sorted with a longer time between exchange and completion. That's in the past now though. You will have to pay until you either transfer it to your new property, or give them the required cancellation notice as you agreed when you took out the contract.

As I said above, they will give you a date when you commence the home move process. You're probably looking at at least 2 weeks though. This will be the case whether you move with Sky or take out a new deal with someone else.

What can we do as a replacement for broadband in the new house until it's set up?

Mobile broadband is a possibility. Or using your mobile phone data.

I moved with Sky BB a couple of months back and it takes around 2 weeks to complete, you'll also lose your landline telephone number as Sky can't transfer it to a new property even if using the same exchange. If you're out of contract you could just cancel it at the old address although it's still 14 days notice and take up a new supplier at your new address.
