Specsavers con?

My partner did a deal with Specsavers (Swiss Cottage, London) for eye test, two new pairs of glasses and new prescription lenses put into his old glasses.

When he picked them up on the allocated day, two of the pairs of glasses were fine. But in one of the pairs of new glasses the lens stuck out a bit - not flush with the frame. He was told that there had been difficulty with the factory getting the lenses in, as they weren't quite right for the frame. Specsavers offered to send them back to see if the factory could improve them. If they could not, my partner was told he would have to pay an extra £35 to get the lenses made thinner. We have argued ourselves blind on this one with the unbending woman in there, one of the partners in that Specsavers franchise. IMO they didn't produce what was promised, they should pay the cost of making things right. Is this correct?

Would be grateful for opinions.

did he get some assistance when he was selecting frames? I am surprised they did not advise him that his prescription was not best for the frame unless thinner lenses were bought (my daughter has terrible eyesight so always goes for thinned lenses as the standard ones would be thick based on her prescription)

He was not advised of any such potential problem. His sight is not that bad and he doesn't actually need thin lenses for the sake of his eyesight. They would only be needed to make the product look correct.

Well I've occasionally taken second hand sunglasses to spec savers for different lenses and they always tell me that they can't guarantee the frames won't break.
    Isn't this the same thing?

Well, it was their lenses put into their brand new frames. We spent a long time in there and talking to an assistant about our choice, we were not advised that there could be any kind of problem. So I don't think it is the same situation?

you say his sight is not bad enough to need a thinner lens made. What is his prescription?
This will determine how thick a standard lens will be.

I don't know exactly, but not the point. They are just for reading and close work. Specsavers have said that he doesn't need thin lenses as his prescription is low. What I am trying to communicate is that he was not told that there could be any problems with the frame. However, the lenses are not flush with the glasses, they stick out a bit. To solve this, the lenses need to be thinned. Therefore surely the onus is on Specsavers to do this at their own expense, not to expect my partner to pay. He was led to believe he was getting three perfect pairs of glasses and this is what he should have got. I am trying to find out the legality of it.

My husband had the same thing, they actually helped choose the frames and the glasses were a pain, the lenses kept working loose and hubby went back about 20 times starting within days of fitting.
They claimed he'd left the glasses in a hot place and distorted the frame, something he never does.
He gave up in the end, they won't budge when there is a problem even if it's within days of fitting.

Thing is the glasses do their job by the sounds of things. They are just not pleasing on the eye. That doesn't make them not fit for purpose.

The crux is is it unreasoonable for the lenses to protrude from the frame I personally don't think so unless they gave you assurance that their would be not be.

Prescription lenses work by being thicker in some places than others! - So all lenses will protude to a certain extent.

But they have offered to send them back and get the lab to remake so why not do that?. Then if they still come back with an issue take it from their.

The presciption is only one aspect of the thickness of lenses. Also frame size pupil centraion and whether it is a rimless / supra will affect the issue.

If you were my patient I would also proably send back and remake but would not offer thinner lenese F.O.C
