Is the 'report Abuse' system still working?

Options
I know there forum staff are busy with recent incidents and so may be unable to deal with all issues but I'm not even getting the usual quick automated "your report has been received" replies.

On the subject of report abuse, why isn't there a report abuse button on incoming private messages?

I've had a few spammy ones over the years and it would be good to have a mechanism for reporting these.
  • Hi MarkyMarkD

Im informed by the tech team that it is something we're working on, although we can't give an exact timescale for it working at the moment

While we are on the subject, why doesn't automated abuse reporting go a step further?

If (say) five people report the same post as abusive, why can't it be immediately quarantined - made invisible to normal site users, but only visible to the abuse team.

When there are blatantly abusive posts I'm sure they are reported many times as abusive, but they can sit on the site for days generating unnecessary responses and annoying users.

    How about it?

You might want to refine this slightly, such that only abuse reports from established users count towards the five (or however many). You don't want people establishing 5 false identities just so they can get their enemy's posts removed.

If the "5 strikes and you're out" facility appeared to be abused then it might be necessary to look at the users doing the reporting - i.e. five people acting in concert reporting the same post which isn't abusive at all.
  • How about a button to report abuse without having to send an email!

how about trolls and mischief makers are immediately banned instead of just their posts being removed? they spoil the site for everyone.

im with anthillmob on this one, 'the thread that shall not be mentioned' was running smoothly and yet again 1 or 2 people under 2 ids ran rampage and used every excuse under the sun for their poor attitude. its seems they took offence to the thread starter rather than the topic and cried offence at the subject at every given opportunity.

Im aware of martins stance on the subject but the removal of the thread will just mean the trouble makers will find a home elsewhere, something really does need to be done now. Its so disheartening to see the site get over run by a few nutbars.

    4:17 - Madeleine thread removed.
    4:33 - Anthillmob complaining here.
    :rotfl:

I don't support censorship of any topic but I was sure as hell going to let people know I had a problem with some of the things being discussed in that thread - that's NOT trolling.

Ironically, it seems that it was one of the regulars incessant 'troll' calls to anyone that objected to the conspiracy theories and speculation that ended up killing it.
