You've almost certainly tripped an anti-money laundering flag somewhere along the line - Halifax will be in a difficult position as legally they can't tell you that, which is why you're being told some guff about the account being made dormant.

I can't say what might have aroused suspicions - quarterly deposits in themselves aren't an issue in themselves - but something of your activity has meant they are mandated to conduct KYC (Know Your Customer) checks to validate your identity.

In all honesty, it's not an unreasonable request to ask an account holder to prove their identity, especially given the rising issues of fraud.

But if this were the case, would not access to all his Halifax accounts be blocked?

The OP said in his first post
I have other accounts with Halifax, same name and address, which I can access, and I have been a customer for nearly 50 years, yet I cannot access my savings account without proving who I am.
  • @xyiophone, I had to have three documents as I do not have photographic ID.

What can you use to prove your identity?
In most cases you will only need to produce one of the following:

A current photo driving licence or passport from the United Kingdom.
    A Northern Ireland Voters Card.

If you cannot provide one of the items above, you will need to bring two documents. One document from each of the following lists instead:

And even if it were three, two hours and three people and a check at HO?
  • Update.
Well, it seems that my last visit may have worked.
I have recieved in the mail, the first statement in over a year, for that account, things are looking up.

I guess I have to wait until the official letter comes through.
