EE phone ported to another network. But sim still active and makes calls

Hi

A month ago I transfer my number onto giffgaff out of EE. The port was successful, the giffgaff sim makes and receives calls on my original number.

Normally the original network would deactivate the sim. For some reason this hasn't happened and the EE sim card is still live and makes call and the recipient gets the original phone number as the caller ID (Although crucially, the doesn't receive calls which is good).

I phoned up EE twice and they have fobbed me off both times. One said to wait 48 hours, waited and still live and then rang again and they said to wait 72 hours, waited and then rang again and they said it must be on wifi calling.

Definately not on wifi calling as we tested the sim with an old phone that doesn't have wifi calling and the sim works.

I asked EE about this and they said as far as they're concerned the account is closed. SO what does it mean for me if I carry on using this sim for making calls?

The sim doesn't connect to3G/4G any more which is a bummer as using it on a tablet would have been far more useful than calling.

That's interesting, some kind of aberration, unless anyone has a reasonable explanation.

I can't see any disadvantage for yourself, unless using the EE Sim for calls would generate a charge for which there's no longer a means of payment such as DD, and be automatically reported as unpaid on your credit files.

It's bound to be being logged somewhere on the EE servers and billing platform, so you could end up with a bill at some point if you keep using it.

The account is closed, there is no contract with them any more. Why would we be liable for any charges?

Err... because if you keep using it knowing that it is an error you would still be liable for the charges - probably at full rates per minute.

THey'll know the SIM number used, and the IMEI of the phone used so who do you think should pay for the calls.

    Hello,

It sounds like there must have been a glitch with the number port if you can still make calls from your EE SIM. Please give us a call when you get a moment so we can get this investigated. (https://ee.co.uk/help/get-in-touch)

    Thanks, Jenny

So giff giff sim works as it should?

EE sim shouldn't work, but does

Cut sim in half and move on with your life
