I saw an article, a few weeks ago that interested me - implying that THREE had finally caught up with EE in allowing its customers to send (and possibly receive ?) texts on-line (from a website) - useful when the 3G/4G signal is non-existent (and when you don't have your phone available) - yet on further investigation - it appears to only be Web Cube customers (a MiFi type of device) ?
Anyone know differently ?

Oh, by your post it sounded like you were saying Three had caught up with EE who allow sms from a website...

I can remember when Orange used to allow it, it was more than 8 years ago 50Twuncle, more like 10-12 years ago, at least, if not more.

I remember that the Nokia Suite running on your PC would allow you to compose and send text messages from your Nokia phone (6320), as well as manage your contacts list etc. It connected the phone to the USB port with a special cable.

This was at least 15 years ago!

The Mighty Text app will let you do that now from Android phones. (I can't speak for iOS, sorry). I'm sure there're others.

'mighty text' and 'messages android' will not send if phone has no reception which is what poster wants?

you can use this service if no reception but there is a tiny charge per text
