A non-dependant deduction doesn't apply to a full-time student during term time or during holidays if they're not working.
A non-dependant deduction does apply if a student works for 16 hours or more a week during the summer holidays. You may need to ask them to contribute towards your housing costs.

Thanks for that! I will be working but I am only given 3 5 hour shifts per week for my trial period, so it should not affect anything during then.

I am not sure if this will help.

To me it sounds like the council has suspended payment of HB while determining what your situation is now.

I think you need to ask the people concerned what they need and how it can be acheived. Would a letter from your Department Head help, saying you are doing more courses next year and so your course is extended by one year? You need to include that this is full time education if it still is.

Are you receiving a student loan for next year? Provide proof that you have applied.

In my council, as I am on benefits, even without my son initially being registered as a full time student (had problems getting the letter needed from his Uni) I only had to pay £15 a week because I had a non dependent adult living with me (supposedly). You could go to the CAB for advice. I did get that money back once he got the letter and I was able to show it to the council. I wonder if tax records showing you have no earnings right now would help (although the council should be able to access these).

Generally I find if I don't show annoyance but sort of throw myself on the council's mercy, say I don't know what to do, they are much more helpful.

Will this apply, as the OPs course is finished. They are not a student on a holiday between terms.

They need to go back to finish off the course as I assume they have not done it in the allotted time and need to apply in September to finish it.

    hello!

I hope someone can help me because I am becoming very desperate :(

Basically, I have finished uni on the 6th of June 2018 (few weeks ago) and the next week my mum got a letter concerning me saying that the housing benefit has been stopped and i must submit my payslips and p45 forms to the council in order to regain them. I dont have any of these because I have not started work, I am not going to start work because I have to wait till september to reregister at uni to complete 3 outstanding modules. Even if i had fully graduated, it is a bit unrealistic to expect me to have found work in the few weeks after leaving uni. I have to stay close to home because my mother has a disability and cannot work and I have to help with a lot of things, plus all of my friends who have graduated it has taken them an average of 4-7 months to find proper work, so i dont know why they are being like this.

I have got a letter from my university stating that I have been in full time education from 2011-2018 and I am a permanent leaver from the 6th of June, however they have said this is inadequate and rejected it, since after the 6th of june 2018 i am not a full time student anymore.

I dont really know what to do, rent payment is coming up and we cant afford to pay the council the rent without the housing benefit deductions (we live in a council house in the London borough of Hackney). I am really worried me and my mother will be evicted from the house and have no idea what to do. :(

does anyone have any advice or know how i should navigate my way around this?

Does you mum received DLA care or PIP Daily living.

If so a non dependant deduction will not apply
