Give them a cheque from your current account.

I'm purchasing from a used car dealer who has a good reputation and has been in business for many years.

However, I don't want to make the payment until the transport company guy gives me a call when they are on site to confirm that the car is definitely there and in the same condition as the video / photos they have sent.

I wouldn't be comfortable sending all that money a day or two in advance before the car is collected just in case the dealer went bankrupt etc.

So your paying £35k for a car that you've only viewed online:eek:.....please tell me you've given it a test drive

I'm about to purchase a £35k car and would like to use my Santander debit card. Are there any limits to the amount you can spend in a single debit card transaction?

I'd imagine due to the amount of money involved, the payment may not go through until a security check is completed. Would that likely only take minutes to complete? I have a transport company collecting the vehicle and don't want them to have to wait too long.

    Thanks for any advice.

i paid around 33k with a debit car without any issue.
certainly important - the account was had 2transactions per year for around 15years
    just recently one big deposit
so far regarding money laundering :D

£35k for a car on a debit card, unseen. HUGE mistake. Pay on a debit card fair enough but pay once YOU have seen the car. NOT someone else.

If you clearly have cleared funds for pay by debit card 35k, even putting £100 on a credit card makes the card company and the seller liable if anything goes wrong. Or put as much as you can on credit cards, and then pay it off next month.

Yeah? That wasn't my point. You don't have to make the full balance in one transaction in order to be covered by Section 75.

S75 only covers items between £100-30000, so £35000 is outside the line no matter what you put on a CC.
