Paying over £30k with a debit card

I'm about to purchase a £35k car and would like to use my Santander debit card. Are there any limits to the amount you can spend in a single debit card transaction?
I'd imagine due to the amount of money involved, the payment may not go through until a security check is completed. Would that likely only take minutes to complete? I have a transport company collecting the vehicle and don't want them to have to wait too long.
Thanks for any advice.

I don't think there is a limit but it might avoid problems if you rang Santander & told them what you were intending to do.0

As someone is collecting the vehicle for you presumably you are paying in advance of collection as you will not be present ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

You're not going to come back in a few days saying that you paid for a car to be collected and it wasn't there, are you?over 73 but not over the hill.0

I'm purchasing from a used car dealer who has a good reputation and has been in business for many years.
However, I don't want to make the payment until the transport company guy gives me a call when they are on site to confirm that the car is definitely there and in the same condition as the video / photos they have sent.
I wouldn't be comfortable sending all that money a day or two in advance before the car is collected just in case the dealer went bankrupt etc.0 -
I would not pay £35,000 without viewing. When I purchased unseen, I did not pay until car was delivered and I carried out an inspection."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

A couple of years ago I wanted to make a payment from a current account (to ns and i) by debit card . i called the bank and they said that the maximum limit they allowed was 100k but they had to 'open up' the card to allow that payment to be made and it would only be opened for that 24-hour period whereafter it would revert back to the 10K limit.
Needless to say I accepted that called NS&I and made the payment but NS&I didn't take it until a day later by which time the window was closed0 -
Make a pre call to your bank. As said by 18cc above they will give you a temp extension of your limit but it might be 1 hour or 1 day so best to check a few days in advance to see what the score is.0

OP
Have you considered paying a small amount by credit card, to ensure you have S75 protection?0 -

I bought my £10k car with my debit card, and I phoned up the bank, Lloyds, and there was no way of pre-warning or pre-authorising the transaction, the advice was just to go and do it and see if it triggers any security/fraud/whim related follow-up.
I bought the car, it went through same as buying groceries, the bank never mentioned it.(Although I could be wrong, I often am.)0 -
