Reasons for failed internal security check - mobiles.co.uk
Options
My girlfriend's just tried to purchase a phone from mobiles.co.uk, but has failed an internal security check. Anyone have any ideas on what they check for?
We're in the process of buying a house, so we know her credit is good - apart from the fact she got a credit report saying so, she's been approved for credit cards, and a mortgage. She's registered on the electoral roll and the bank she's with is registered under her exact name (no shortened names or nicknames), at our current address (I've read these can affect whether your purchase is accepted or not, if the details you give don't 100% match the ones they check).
Anyone have any issues themselves, and what did they do as an alternative? I could easily buy the phone for her, but it seems daft that I would have to considering the above.

Every company has its own confidential criteria. In the past, I've found it possible to be accepted by the network but not by the third party dealer. It could be as simple as the dealer having sold its quota of a deal but not wanting to stop advertising it (Just my supposition, I've no firm evidence but CPW group* have history of this)

Possibly that she now has too much "available credit" showing once you bung in a mortgage
It is not how much you borrow but how much you could borrow that countsEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -

The alternative is go to a different provider.I could easily buy the phone for her,
If you mean SIM free, then that would probably be the cheaper option anyway rather than committing to a long contract.
Also, if you are in the process of moving, have you checked the signal strength at your new property, especially inside? You don't want to be locked into a contract and find you can't get a decent reception on that network.
Many, many threads here with people complaining about that, not realising that it is in fact their own fault and they have no right to get out of the contract.0 -
CPW have their own rules on contract applications - often without even carrying out a credit check. Normally they simply tell people the credit check failed, which make people assume it was the network - so if they've said it was their own check at least that's something.
I haven't used them for about 3 years now for other reasons, but did use them extensively for many years prior to that. I rarely came up against the problem, but when I did overcame it by talking to them. The problem was they have a strict quota on the number of contracts you can have from them over a given period - and Mobiles.co were even stricter than other CPW outlets. I did have the advantage of a long track record with CPW and dozens of contracts over nearly a decade.0 -
In case the OP doesn't realise: mobiles.co.uk is part of Dixons Carphone.0

Could also be over applying for things on credit or to many credit searches.
I had it with CPW a few years ago where i tried to get a contract and they refused it.
I was told to wait a few months before applying again and it work.
My credit rating as always been good and always paid on time never had any missed payments So you could have a perfect credit rating and still get refused i think sometime it's just if your name fits.Nobody is Perfect. I am Nobody, therefore I am Perfect.0 -
Not being accepted is a bonus, buy a phone outright and go SIM only for greater choice, and usually less expensive overall.
You also avoid being locked into a contract for (typically) 2 years!0
