Weekly shops done. Lidl and salns with a moc. New total is £210.97/£450 which is about right for nearly halfway through the month. What is helping is stock taking the freezer so I know what I have already bought! It's not rocket science but, by golly, it's taken me long enough. I have also been batch cooking a curry/chilli/stew and eating that 3-4 times a week. I really don't mind eating the same thing over and over. Then I only have to cook daily for the rest of the family. It also means I don't make any poor food choices because I'm tired/can't be bothered.

Hope you guys are surviving the month. Xx
  • I'm down to £55 left with just under 2 weeks to go until payday, gonna be quite tight but I think I can make it.
Going to do an Aldi shop tonight for breakfast bits, milk, bread and fruit. We've still got stocks of everything else. Aim is to spend under £25 tonight and make it last until next weekend.

Expensive shop today of £64 so as I'll need at least one more shop before the end of the month my budget is going to be blown! :( Total so far £149/£150. YTD is still well under budget thankfully.
  • A few bits bought this week in homebargains and Sainsburys. I have bought cat food but thats under a separate budget. So far this month I have spent on food £48/£200. Im hoping to do a Tesco shop next week to get fresh and freezer food.
    £2 savers club 2025 #2= £48
  • Going to have to do an extra shop today, we seem to have nothing in! The freezer is full but the fridge is bare, and no crackers or bread - we even ran out of milk. I think I've taken the NSDs too far this week.

Oh well still got over £100 in budget til 28 July so I should be ok hopefully

Also, add sofritto to just about everything involving mince: make your own (finely diced onion, carrot and celery). Make up big batches (easy with a food processor) and freeze in suitable sizes.

Ooher - I do this too but didn't know it had a name! :D

Week 2 spends came in at £42.37 (£1.20 Co-op, £7.80 market, £33.37 at Mr S) and x5 NSDs. Halfway through the month and £54.53 left in the budget for the next 2 weeks. Happy with this as the freezer is full (still :o ), the fridge likewise and store cupboards fully stocked up.

I made up my shopping list on Thursday evening and it was mainly F&V and dairy that I needed. The fridge looked like Old Mother Hubbard's cupboard - lots of pickles and chutneys (probably too many) but hardly anything to eat! A small piece of cheese, x5 apples, half an onion and that was about it. Still, at least nothing had gone to waste. :D Also used a £4.50 MOC, earned 500 extra loyalty points and bagged some really good ys bargains. Happy days. :):):)

Okay - so my second week has been supermarket free and I have stuck to my guns - shopping local for f & V plus some bacon. The result? Some gorgeous butcher bacon and £27.89 spent - a vast improvement on last week! Thank you for keeping me on track!

    Hi!

I come on and off this forum and have done for years! I do like to lurk occasionally and it's nice to see some of the old names still here :)

Can I please join the grocery challenge for July?
I shop weekly, hoping to spend £40 per week to cover myself and my partner, though I don't provide all of his meals so I should be spending a lot less than £40 per week but it's a start.

I'll aim for 2 NSD per week as well :)

I totally agree with that, would be wrong to me too. He's also the main bread winner and works much longer hours than I do, so it's really not just up to me what we eat, but everyone works things out the way which works for them :)

I bought some quorn mince and hated it, and OH actually liked it and said he'd have it again instead of beef mince, so I could end up making quorn chilli for him and veg and bean chilli for me :rotfl::rotfl:

If you are looking for a realistic mince replacement, try the new Naturli mince in Sainsburys. I made Spaghetti Bolognese with this recently and it was delicious. I like it better than the frozen Tesco veggie mince we ( i am vegan, DD2 veggie and GD1 is dairy intolerant) normally use. DD2 loved it too, and she eats alot of vegan meals, and hates cheese and drinks my plant milk. She says she'll probably be vegan in the future, but she's 15 and it's taken her a few attempts to stick to being vegetarian.

In other news, i have spent £49.64 since i last posted in Aldis, work, and Morrisons. I also have and Ocado shop due as i am lacking in dinner ingredients; and my Morrisons has decided to stop stocking the only dairy free cheese they had, so need to stock up for me and GD from here. Feel like it's going to be a spendy month, though i really need it not to be. Due to such tight spends last month, we seem to be running out of almost everything :undecided
