1.2 Clio 2002 Keeps cutting out!!
Hi this is my first post on here! I've had this car for around a year now, first few months worked fine. After a while the car started to occasionally cut out when slowing to a stop at junctions or under 30mph. Usually happened when you put clutch in and begin breaking to a stop. The car will rev itself and if im unable to put some gas on, the car will completely cut out. Starts up first time after however without putting gas on the car will then cut out again. The electrical light comes on when it starts revving and will only go if I'm able to keep it from cutting out. I've had a new map sensor which seemed to get rid of the problem for around 2 weeks but it has come back and I'm honestly fed up of it! As you can probably tell I'm not a car person so I have no idea about cars. A couple local mechanics said there are no fault codes and pretty much said they would have to try different parts but can't guarantee a fix! Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated! I've had enough lol. Thanks

Find a better garage where they dont mind getting their hands dirty. And hope they have better luck.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

I'm losing the will to live with this car but unfortunately can not afford another one. Your probably right I'll have to find somewhere else. Anyone have suggestions on what the problem could be or have had similar problems themselves?0

I could suggest 1001 things, but if you dont have the equipment most of my suggestions will be pointless.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

First thing that comes to mind would be to check the idle control valve0

Have a look on the interweb here

the Clio has a sort of metal box at the back of the engine that all the engine wiring goes through. This box rattles like crazy and cuts into the wiring, producing temporary short circuits and giving the problems that you describe. (You can actually see the bare portions of the wires if you move the cover- right at the edge where the wire goes in)
I fixed my neighbour's son's Clio by simply forcing a sliver of insulation tape under the edge of the cover, and advising him to get rid of it PDQ.
No way could I get that cover off to simply throw it away and cure the fault permanently. (It is tamper-proof after all!)I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Good chance its electrics.
When did you last change the battery?0 -
Crank sensor would be my guess with the limited info available.0

I had a similar thing with my MX-5. It was a bad knock sensor0

Hi thanks for the response. I've never changed it since buying as little knowledge on cars. However had a problem with the connectors to the battery previously. Do you think a new battery could fix this issue?0

Get yourself a Haynes manual.
Go round all the sensors you can easily get to. Clean them. Change oil & filter, air filter, spark plugs, HT leads.
A 2002 car will be a lot simpler to work on than a more modern one!0
