SIM only, own router / tethering smart phone

Since the ISP's seem to either nail you to a cross or wait for you to drop the soap, has anyone considered going SIM only, and say getting a cheap smart phone or 4G router?

I'm seeing monthly rolling contracts for as low as £20 for unlimited data....No line rental, setup fees or general smeg.

Thoughts?

    Main point is how much data you use .

    If you've seen unlimited data for proper 4G broadband (i.e. not a tethered smartphone) at £20, I would be interested to know where.

    I guess its Relish, but its only available in Swindon and London and its £22 /month now.
