I'm not a great fan of the foot massage, some people like them I couldn't be doing with them!
Im very much for the idea of an afternoon out as a treat, with a little bit of lunch or tea and actually just to spend some time together.
Roses or plants are always nice if she has a garden or if not something in a planter that can be kept inside.
I'm also not sure what type of person she is but I've had several elderly relations who as they have got older have really enjoyed the whole "back to childhood " experience, cake, candle bit of jelly and a helium balloon
If shes not physically up for an afternoon out then just take the afternoon to her in a lovely picnic hamper or something similar.Vintage tea party type thing with a lovely china tea cup she could keep maybe.
And if you want something tangible to give her how about a collection of songs from the 30'40's or 50's.The wartime songs are lovely to sit and listen to and probably of the era she sang along to.
A lovely cushion is another idea either for her to use or brighten up a room or bed. You could get something personalised or maybe pretty that matches her decorin S 38 T 2 F 50

Another vote for afternoon tea! You could get a voucher for the 3 of youu. Or, some places near my home now provide a takeaway/delivery afternoon tea, so maybe see if someone near you offers the same if you think she may not be up for going out? You can display it on a nice cake stand, if you don't have one just ask around I am sure a friend/family will have one to lend you.0

I like your pampering idea. Maybe a manicure if she doesn't want to get her legs out. The afternoon tea idea is lovely too. At that age an experience might be nicer than physical items.
Good idea, but get one from the day after, then it will be about things that happened on her birthday.0 -
She loves coming to me as I live by the beach, loved walking along the prom , the fish and chips and ice-cream, but not sure she’s physically up for that at the moment.
Hmmm...food for thought though, there could be something in her area that I could take her to.
Add afternoon tea or an afternoon at the races/ drinks in the pub and she will be delighted:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one:beer::beer::beer:

A day at the seaside sounds lovely - if she's not up to it then if there is a garden at the scheme/park nearby you could bring a deckchair, fish and chips and ice cream to her. Get her to tell you all her memories - find out about her favourite places, holidays, moments, what she did for a living, her favourite music etc - I find the stories so interesting."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better." I had this problem on Mothers' day after my Mum had been diagnosed with terminal cancer - I bought her a David Nieper nightdress, they are very elegant and indulgently luxurious (not cheap!). Also very comfortable. She loved it, especially as almost every carer or nurse complimented her on them. We bought four eventually so she could have clean one every day. Different scenario I know, but might be an idea?
Oh yes, David Nieper. In the 90s I did all sorts of jobs and one of them was as a live-in carer for a lady with advanced MS. She had David Nieper's nighties. She said 'her body was so ugly, wearing the beautiful fabrics and lace made her feel better'. Now, I have a lot of his clothes, have even visited the shop and had coffee there.

Do not bother buying 'things' - a special occasion depending on what she'd like, is the better idea.
Last weekend I took DH on a Father's Day afternoon tea on the Wensleydale Railway. For my birthday he says he's taking me to France, one of our favourite restaurants in Calais.
At our age I don't think we want any more 'things'.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

Hire a wheelchair then take her to an aquarium.
Theatre trip? (My mum is taking my 94 year old gran to a musical!)
Classical music concert?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Sorry for abandoned the thread for a bit, was really busy at work. Thank you for the ideas, I quite like the paper idea so will look into that.
Afternoon tea is always a good one as she is a real sweet tooth.
Thanks for replies and ideas....shooting off into work again now.
I never have time to turn round these days.. ....which actually isn’t funny .
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
