Thank you... I am really struggling with this as can't work out whether this is a question of building control not being applicable or building control just not being interested as have more important issues to manage.
I am still struggling to find definitive rules as to whether building is/is not needed.0 -
You can call Building Control at your local council and ask.
I think it is widely accepted that a concrete lintel is perfectly sufficient for a small opening. There are definitely no calculations required and so I think they feel there is nothing to check. Not every alteration in a house requires Building Control involvement.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

But if the OP suspects that there may have been work done that did require approval, it would be worth ask for an indemnity policy from the seller. The solicitor handling the purchase should be able to advise on that.Her courage will change the world.

New work has to comply with the Regulations, and your door would have been new work. Repair and maintenance are exempt - your door would not fall under that category.0
