Won pip appeal

Hi I’m new to this. I have bipolar and struggle with everyday life. Anyway I was getting DLA until I was asked to change over to pip I filled in the forms and sent them of, not long after(feb last year 2017) I had my assessment. I knew he didn’t listen to me and the following month I got the latter to say I hadn’t been awarded. My Dla stopped on April 2017. I put in for a appeal and yesterday 20 June 2018 I won it’s been well over a year I’ve been awarded it from 5 April 2017 to 2020. I’d like to know if that means I will get it back dated to that date from now. I’m not sure how this works and it’s driving me mad not knowing. I was advised not to ring them for 2 weeks which tbh I don’t think is fair I was waiting well above the average waiting time which there dwp representative said yesterday she actually had no idea why I was turned down in first place. Many thanks

Great news! Yes, it will be backdated to the date of the original decision.

There will be a wait for the back pay though unfortunately. They do have 28 days to ask for the Statement of reasons because they have the same right to appeal as we do. Wait a couple of weeks then ring DWP.

Thankyou so much does this mean they have to back date it from the day I won. I!!!8217;ve seen on different forums they will only backdate a certain amount of months. Sorry for the questions and Thankyou for reply

As you were claiming DLA previously then it will be backdated to the day it stopped, so 12-13 months back pay. It could take DWP anything up to 6 weeks to pay you, if they decide not to appeal. which they very rarely do.

Do you claim any means tested benefits like JSA, ESA or IS? If so, depending on your PIP award and other circumstances for EG, do you live alone, or are you classed as living alone (no one over the age of 18 lives with you) You could be entitled to more money.

Hi I!!!8217;m married and claim income support as a couple my son is 19 but he also receives pip due to Adhd which is really bad. he gets enhanced rate. My husband gets carets allowance for him. When I was getting DLA before it stopped in April last year hubby was getting a extra 45.95 a week for me being sick but that stopped when they stopped my dla. He phoned them yesterday as we were told we had to let them know and the lady said that she would put that into the system and any arrears he was owed would be back dated. I know my sons 19 but still in education.
Honestly I can!!!8217;t Thankyou enough for the help poppy x

You're welcome! It's not your phone that's doing the numbers i think it's caused by something else. It happens to a lot of people lol.
