Old Style Daily Thursday 21st June 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone

I went to the seaside yesterday in the end, and had a really nice day. The weather was ideal, lovely warm and sunny with a light breeze. I had a walk along the prom and then treated myself to lunch in a really nice seafront pub. Their menu is everything with chips, but I had a really nice garlic breaded chicken breast portion with mushrooms, tomatoes, onion rings, peas and of course the chips. When I got home all I wanted was a snack in the evening so I had a toasted cheese sandwich for a change, and of course I had to eat the cheesecake slice I had got out to defrost.

Today I am meeting my friend for coffee and hopefully we will be able to decide where we are going to go for a break. We don’t want to go anywhere with too long a flight. I’m hopefully going away in September sometime with another good friend so that’s two breaks to look forward to.

I got a lamb shank out of the freezer to defrost overnight and will slow cook that today for dinner, probably just with some new potatoes and whatever veg there is in the fridge. Another one of the steamed puddings will be pudding.

The housework can wait today , it doesn’t look too dusty in here at the moment and the bathroom and kitchen are ok. There is plenty of time for housework when the weather turns.

Glad you’re starting to feel a bit better Nelski.

I hope that you enjoyed your day out in Skipton and catch up with your friend TA.

I totally agree about there being too much sport on TV at the moment JackieO.

Another one here who doesn’t like of football Judi.

    Enjoy your holiday meanmarie.

Good news about your mum Gers, I hope that you slept better last night.

I remember reading last year how the last week of term was manic for you Camelot. I hope that it goes quickly without too many last minute problems then you can relax a bit for a few weeks.

I hope DOHs interview went well Lainey.

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.

    Good morning everyone :hello:
I gave up on sleep around 3am so I will definitely be napping like a nana later on. Steve will be up at 5 so I will make him a drink for a change as he always makes me one first thing in the morning.

Quiet day today with no appointments or meetings or anything really. I finished knitting a couple of chimpanzees so now I am moving on to making a couple of sloths for my friend as a jokey wedding gift. I have a few weeks to make them but they shouldn't take more than a few days.

I am making a vegi bolognese sauce and I have some edamame pasta to try out for dinner tonight. Steve has a fray bentos pie on stand by if it all goes horribly wrong. I'm sure it will be fine though as I am just substituting our usual mince for quorn, I have 2 bags of it kicking around in the freezer and I am sick of looking at them.

All is peaceful here at home at the moment. Lilly has a couple more days in college and then she has finished until September. Lee's care co ordinator is trying to find out if he can go to college next September instead of returning to school so he could have a fresh start. Phoebe has finished 6th form so will be looking for work soon. I hope the Summer goes well for them all being at home.

I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning all, thank you for the thread Hollyharvey.

Today is the longest day and although many people I know are looking forward to autumn, I do love summer sunshine. So I'm glad that we still have some summer months left.

I have no real plans today, shall just potter around happily.

I totally agree about the football, fortunately none if us is into spectator sport.

    Have a great time meanmarie

Hope everyone has a good day.

Shhh, the sun is shining! Sports day (again) today, let's hope the weather holds this time. Unfortunately parents are invited to sports day, I had quite a few in shouting at me yesterday as the summer trip has had to be postponed due to the bus company letting us down. Shame they don't take the same interest in their children's education!

Anyway, I went back to work last night and was there until 8.30, so much sorting out to do. Couldn't get to sleep last night with so much going round my head.

    Have a lovely holiday meanmarie.
Pleased to hear your DM had good news Gers, glad you have everything sorted for Monday.
Sounds like a good day out Holly!

The washing is on the line and I'm off for a swim. Have a good day, take care. XX
  • Morning folks and thanks HOLLY. The sun is streaming through the window and another nice day forecast, but that pesky wind is still with us!

Had a lovely day out with my friend yesterday. Despite good intentions two books jumped into my hand in one of the cs but, as by my two favourite authors, they came home with me to join my stash. Bargains on the f & v stall too - 2 punnets of strawberries and 1 of raspberries for £2. Went in the newly refurbished Black Horse for lunch (our favourite Red Lion was stuffed with coach trippers - bah!) We both had beer battered cod, chips and peas, washed down with a quite acceptable bottle of Spanish white. A grand day out!

Today it's shopping day and to say Mr TA is eating so little I seem to be spending far more on food (which ends up in the bin) I think it will be both Sainsbobs and Aldi today. Since Aldi was redesigned I have never got to grips with the new layout and it takes me much longer to find what I am looking for. So much easier doing the shop in Sainsbobs but that must stop as it costs so much more!

Once Mr TA gets up I want to strip the bed and get that lot in to wash and pegged out before the excitement of shopping!

Mr TA's first night taking the meds the Urologist prescribed, but until he gets up, I don't know if they have helped reduce his loo visits through the night. I do hope so as the broken nights are wearing him out. I had to rearrange the medicine cupboard in the kitchen last night he is on so much more stuff. The overflow of nutritional drinks has ended up in the sideboard in the lounge! I have a bag of the neutral Fortisip to return to the chemist, which is a bit of a waste, but he really can't stomach them.

Right time for another coffee and I am waffling so GERS good news re mum and I love your new table. That's a fine craftsman you have got there. MEANMARIE happy hols. ((HUGS)) to all in need/want of them and take care all xx

    Morning everyone

hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Sun shining but air feels much cooler, I have a wash load ready to peg out, hoping to get all the washing done and line dried today.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 is awake - as he's going out for a run in a bit, he'll then get a shower and some brekkie before going to college.

Dinner last night was full english - lovely it was. I have got some chicken thigh fillets out to defrost so they will form part of tonight's dinner but not sure yet what I'm going to do with them yet.

Yesterday work was a bit less manic although the phones were ringing off the hooks until just after lunch time, then it did ease off a bit, but so many unhappy people. I'm now on days' off, but I'm working this Saturday and next - but then I'm off on annual leave for 2 weeks, so will get a proper break - both me and DH are more than ready, it seems like we ages since we've had a proper break. The break for a few days' in April wasn't such a break as we ended up taking my parents away with us and mum is hard work, unfortuntely she has been diagnosed with Alzheimers (sp?) and is getting worse by the week.

I have a long "to do" list as always - but will plod along and get it done as much as possible - what doesn't get done will be put over to tomorrow/another day.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning all.

Thanks so much for the comments about my DM, and yes, I slept really soundly last night. I know she's a rising 91 year old and nature will take its normal course. Not just yet please.

Camelot - :eek:cancelled school trip! What a nightmare, poor children, such a disappointment for them. I remember my trips, but only the journey for them. Huge joy if a double decker bus turned up, the rush for the top deck and singing most of the way there and sleeping most of the way back. "The bottom of the bus cannea sing".

TA - I'm sure those naughty books are in good hands.

HH - the seaside is such a healing place to be.

Dumpling - I hope that peace reigns for you today.

Another meeting, this time in Oban. The drive isn't half a beautiful as the one to Oban, but it's half the distance. We're meeting in a gorgeous cafe / garden centre called Poppies, it's right on the edge of the sea. Tomorrow I'll just have to photocopy some documents and I'll be ready for the 'big deal' meeting.

I hope everyone has a happy Thursday.

Looks a bit overcast here but im sure it will be brighter later, off to the quiet site today and for five days after, I am training the new people up so I wont be down there too much in the future.

She was actually very good and promised that I would not be doing a regular weekend at all :D I said I was happy to do a few a year to cover but I did not want a regular one, she agreed :j to say I am thrilled is an understatement !! the weekends were getting far too much for me, let the younger ones take over !!:D

Something and chips for dinner tonight I think there is some breaded fish in the freezer and peas.

Have a fabulous holiday meanmarie, eat lots of nice pasta and drink the vino and finish it up with mucho gelato :) plus the luxury of no sport and just sun and gorgeous scenery, plus the opportunity with watch handsome men parading around like peacocks :):):)I remember in Malta once there was a drop dead gorgeous guy walking up and down the beach like a peacock showing off his body and handsome face to all the ladies :):) about ten minutes later a rather plump little italian lady arrived and harangued him with a stream of invective and promptly shoved two small children into his arms and walked away muttering furiously Haven't a clue what it was about but I think the said Romeo was supposed to be Dad-sitting instead of displaying his ...erm goods off in his minute swimming trunks. Us ladies of a certain age applauded the little lady, and grinned at Romeo's discomfort :):) :)

I just love people watching .

Hope everyone has a great day and the sun shines down on you all

    Morning all,

didnt hear the cuckoo call this morning though i might have missed him as i was late waking up. Early to sleep, late to wake up and slept solidly in between. I do sleep better on my own but a King sized bed is a bit of an overkill when i'm on my own.

Bin day today, as usual the bin is groaning under the weight of the stuff ive chucked out.

Not much to do today but im sure i can find something that needs doing.

Good news about the job redruby. Pleased for you.

    Enjoy your holiday Meanmarie.

    Onwards and forwards,

    have a great day all.
