Abbey would not decrease my credit limit.

Okay it is a minor thing, but any joy on this.
I notice that they are an APACS member, and APACS guidelines are clear that you should be able to do this at any time.
Whilst I'm not sure I can recommend them generally, NatWest just reduced my credit card limit today (a combined limit over both Mastercard and Visa) over the phone, effective immediately. The automated menu system actually worked(!), and I just needed to speak to a person at the end of the balance check as there was no menu option for reducing balance. They even offered me 6 month interest free balance transfers - which might have been useful if I'd actually got any other credit/store cards.
If only they were not equally efficient at reducing interest rates after you invest in one of their accounts I'd be able to recommend them0 -
You can certainly ask for your credit limit to be lowered. Abbey aren't going to have functionality to raise limits for 6 months or so, so you can get the limit lowered but you won't be able to put it up again for a while. Just did this myself so I know it works!0

PBA, so why does it work for you and it doesn't work for me? I've asked twice to two different persons at the credit card call centre and twice I was told they couldn't do it. And I made sure they understood that I wanted to lower my credit limit, not increase it. First time I was told it was a new Abbey rule, second time I was told that they cannot offer any of those options (increase or decrease) at this moment. So what's going on?0

Thats rubbish that they cant lower it, what if you had been requested to do it as part of a mortgage application or something? I'd phone up and keep asking for a manager until you found someone who knows what their doing and lowers it for you0
