Corned beef.

Can anyone recommend a good tin of corned beef? I always considered corned beef to be a cheap cupboard staple but the price nowadays says otherwise. I've noticed some of the supermarkets do a basic version. Has anyone tried these and would you recommend or is it better to stick with branded. I've always found own brand items to be just as good if not better with most things. Thanks

I think it's a very good & inexpensive sandwich filler.
With beetroot, it's divine.
I buy 'best' and reduced salt for sandwiches, cheap for corned beef hash.0 -

Corned beef and beetroot sandwiches are one of my faves. I always used to get funny looks at school. I thought it was just me that liked that combo haha.
I was thinking more for corned beef hash so will give a cheaper tin a try. Thanks0 -
Aldi's corned beef is very good, I use it quite a lot. Its fairly lean, I find that some of the corned beef cab have a lot of fat in it.0

It's a family thing with us.
When we used to go to my parents' caravan, I used to take 2 tins of corned beef and a very large jar of beetroot.
When I asked in the morning 'what do you want for sarnis?', it was a pretty universal reply.0 -

I recall Sainsburys used to do normal & economy corned beef. I always preferred the taste of the economy version, strangely enough.0

This is the first time I've heard of corned beef and beetroot sandwiches. I'll certainly give the sandwiches a try before long. Thanks for the tip.0

I don't eat meat anymore, but I would say the three things I missed were, bacon, chicken Kiev's and corned beef hash.
I never had a corned beef and beetroot sandwich but I loved a corned beef and pickled onion sandwich.
There was a TV program on the other night about army chefs, they were very inventive with tins. They made meatballs with corned beef, they looked really good.0 -
